Explore Ayurveda diet, lifestyle, and procedures to be followed during labor to support Sukha Prasava (easy labor).

Dr. Swetha S. Suvarna

In this video, Dr. Swetha Suvarna discusses Ayurveda’s recommendations for optimal birthing positions, massages, and stress management to support a smoother labor. She explains how these techniques help relax the body, improve oxygen flow to the baby, and reduce pain. The video also highlights a nourishing diet to keep the mother hydrated and energized during labor. Discover how these Ayurveda practices contribute to Sukha Prasava (easy labor) and a more comfortable birth.

For a Sukha prasava the positions at which the mother is labouring also become important. If the mother is in a supine position on the table labouring then she is labouring against the gravity. In Ayurveda there are different positions which have been advised which can help in a Sukha prsava. The mother can be comfortable lying down in a supine position with a flexed thighs during the contraction and relax completely. But when she is labouring it is expected that the mother couches over a table on her upper body whereas her lower body is parallel to the ground and she is labouring against the gravity where the baby is received by some attendees who can receive the baby between her thighs where she is standing half the body resting over the table and the lower body is just labouring against the gravity. This makes the process easy for the mother in terms of bearing down because she doesn't have to push the baby as much as she will have to do when she is in a supine position over a table. Along with this Ayurveda also talks about small walks that the mother can do in between the contractions, because all this will help in proper descent of the baby and gives a very natural process in which there is no need to induce the labour or induce the contractions. She can just walk around in the comfortable space and then relax again when there is a contraction and breathe between the contractions. Even the breathing pattern helps in providing the proper oxygen to the baby which can prevent the complications.
