Support a healthy pregnancy by avoiding poor nutrition, stress, and harmful practices, to protect your baby from risks.

Dr. Swetha S. Suvarna

As you progress through your pregnancy, Dr. Swetha Suvarna explains the concept of Garbha Upaghatakara Bhavas—factors that can harm the pregnancy. These include poor diet, emotional stress, and physical strain, all of which can negatively impact both the mother and the baby. It’s important to avoid these harmful influences by focusing on a balanced diet, maintaining emotional well-being, and ensuring proper rest and care. By being mindful of these factors, you can support a healthy and smooth pregnancy, promoting the best outcomes for both you and your baby.

Hello I'm Dr Sweths S Suvarna lead consultant at Apollo AyurVAID hospitals, Bangalore from the Department of Sthree Roga and Prasuti Tantra. While we talk about the healthy pregnancy there are certain factors which can affect the pregnancy in terms of leading to a pregnancy loss or in terms of having the deformities in the fetus. These factors in Ayurveda is grouped under Garbha Upaghatakara Bhavas where Garbha means pregnant status and the Upaghatakara Bhavas means the factors which affects the pregnancy. So when we classify them we can classify it under three main headings as the Ahara Bhavas, the Vihara Bhavas and the Vichara Bhavas or the Manasika Bhavas. When I say Ahara Bhavas it means the diet and the um the dietary supplements that can affect the pregnancy. The second is Vihara Bhavas or the uh lifestyle and the activities that the mother does or the environmental factors all this contributes to the Vihara Bhavas which can affect the pregnancy. And the third is the Vichara or the Manasika Bhavas these are the mental and the emotional status of a mother which can affect the pregnancy. So we have seen that there are enough research which shows us that any of this food uh also can lead to some of the congenital defects in the child and
the emotional factors leading to the long-term emotional variation or the cognitive defects in the child leading to ADHD in the child all the after effects are definitely being linked to some of the pregnancy diet, lifestyle and the emotional behavior of the mother.
