TETRACOSACTIDE
About
TETRACOSACTIDE belongs to the group of medicines called pituitary hormones and analogues used instead of steroids to treat a number of conditions such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthrosis, acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, some types of seizures in children, skin diseases responsive to corticoids, and additional therapy in cancer patients to improve the tolerability of chemotherapy. It is also used as a test to check if pituitary and adrenal glands are working properly.
TETRACOSACTIDE contains Tetracosactide, which is similar to the hormone that the pituitary gland normally produces (called ACTH) to make the adrenal glands produce certain steroids. TETRACOSACTIDE works on the adrenal glands by telling them to produce more steroids.
TETRACOSACTIDE will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. In some cases, TETRACOSACTIDE may cause headaches, increased appetite, stomach pain, increased sweating, and facial flushing. Do not be reluctant to talk with your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worsen.
Let the doctor know if you are allergic to any of the components in TETRACOSACTIDE. Consult the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or blurred vision. Keep the doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any side effects/interactions.

Disease/Condition Glossary
Ulcerative colitis: It is a type of chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the lining of the large intestine (colon) and produces ulcers on the lining of the colon, which may cause bleeding and discharge of pus and mucus. The common symptoms include bloody stools, stomach pain, rectal pain, diarrhoea, fever, and weight loss.
Crohn's disease: It is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract. Symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fatigue, weight loss, abdominal pain,
Rheumatoid arthritis: It is an autoimmune disease (the body's immune system attacks its tissue) that leads to joint pain and damage. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include pain, swelling, stiffness, deformities and loss of joint function.

Due to the absence of this protective covering, the joints rub against each other, leading to pain and stiffness. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, inflammation and tenderness.
Multiple sclerosis: It is an autoimmune disease (the body attacks itself by mistake) that affects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The immune system damages the myelin sheath (protective covering that surrounds the nerve cells), leading to disrupted communication between the brain and the body.
Seizures: Seizures, also known as fits or convulsions, are a single occurrence of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Symptoms include muscle jerking, spasms, loss of balance, teeth clenching, rapid blinking or eye movements, biting the tongue, confusion, and loss of consciousness.
