About Citonin Nasal Spray

Citonin Nasal Spray is primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Post-menopausal osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes thinning and weakening of the bones during/after a menopausal period.

Citonin Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus, it helps treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Use Citonin Nasal Spray as prescribed by the doctor. Citonin Nasal Spray may cause certain side effects such as hypocalcemia, runny nose, nosebleed, sinus pain, application site reactions such as rhinitis (stuffy nose), epistaxis (nose bleeds) and other nasal symptoms, back pain, arthralgia (Joint pain) and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Citonin Nasal Spray is for intranasal use only; do not inject or take it orally. Before using Citonin Nasal Spray, inform your doctor of all your medical conditions, sensitivities, and medications. Citonin Nasal Spray is intended for post-menopausal women; therefore, it should not be recommended for other populations. Avoid drinking alcohol because it affects how the body absorbs calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for good bone formation.

Uses of Citonin Nasal Spray

Treatment of Postmenopausal osteoporosis

Directions for Use

Insert the tip of the bottle into a nostril while closing the other nostril and spray towards the sides of the nostril. Keep your head straight and breathe gently. Repeat the same process for another nostril.

Medicinal Benefits

Citonin Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a calcitonin receptor agonist that prevents the loss of bones that happens after menopause and helps to rebuild bones. Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Citonin Nasal Spray works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Citonin Nasal Spray lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Citonin Nasal Spray strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Citonin Nasal Spray also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.

FAQs

Citonin Nasal Spray is used to treat Postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Citonin Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness).
If you have osteoporosis, avoid smoking, or try to quit. Tobacco use disrupts the mechanisms of bone turnover, resulting in reduced bone mass and bone mineral density (BMD), making bones prone to osteoporosis.
Citonin Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a hormone that regulates the calcium level in the blood. This hormone helps in bone formation and also helps the body to reverse bone loss. Due to this, the number of cells that damages bones become comparatively less; hence the bone damage is halted. Using Citonin Nasal Spray can increase bone formation by activation of the bone-forming cells.
Persons whose age is more than 45 years have low estrogen levels, females reaching menopause, too much consumption of alcohol, tobacco or caffeine, use of glucocorticoids and lack of calcium and vitamin D in foods are some of the factors that can increase the risk of osteoporosis.
Yes, Citonin Nasal Spray is used together with calcium and vitamin D to treat bone loss in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis who have been postmenopausal for at least five years. Citonin Nasal Spray inhibits the function of osteoclasts (bone breakdown), reducing bone resorption; thus, combining calcium and calcitonin could result in a positive bone balance.
Store the unopened bottle in the refrigerator between 2°C- 8°C until ready to use, protect it from freezing. Citonin Nasal Spray in use can be stored at room temperature between 15°C- 30°C for 35 days in an upright position. Keep it out of reach from children.
Citonin Nasal Spray may increase the bone density. Citonin Nasal Spray helps reduce bone loss and damage in individuals with osteoporosis. In certain cases, it also promotes bone formation by stimulating bone-building cells, which can lead to increased bone density.
You are not recommended to use Citonin Nasal Spray if you are having any allergic reactions to calcitonin-salmon to avoid potential interactions. Therefore, please contact a doctor before using Citonin Nasal Spray. Do not self-medicate.
When using Citonin Nasal Spray, you are recommended to, inform your doctor if you have allergies to any of its active substances or a history of severe allergic reactions. Also, let them know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Calcitonin is not recommended for children. In rare cases, it may cause severe allergic reactions, such as bronchospasm, swelling of the tongue or throat, or anaphylactic shock. If any of these occur, seek immediate medical attention.
Citonin Nasal Spray is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is intended only for postmenopausal women. However, if you have any concerns, contact your doctor.
Citonin Nasal Spray causes side effects such as back pain, headache, muscle pain, and runny nose. However, these will gradually reduce over time and do not require any medical attention. Please, consult a doctor if persists longer.
