About Calsalm Nasal Spray
Calsalm Nasal Spray is primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Post-menopausal osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes thinning and weakening of the bones during/after a menopausal period.
Calsalm Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus, it helps treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
Use Calsalm Nasal Spray as prescribed by the doctor. Calsalm Nasal Spray may cause certain side effects such as hypocalcemia, runny nose, nosebleed, sinus pain, application site reactions such as rhinitis (stuffy nose), epistaxis (nose bleeds) and other nasal symptoms, back pain, arthralgia (Joint pain) and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.
Calsalm Nasal Spray is for intranasal use only; do not inject or take it orally. Before using Calsalm Nasal Spray, inform your doctor of all your medical conditions, sensitivities, and medications. Calsalm Nasal Spray is intended for post-menopausal women; therefore, it should not be recommended for other populations. Avoid drinking alcohol because it affects how the body absorbs calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for good bone formation.
Uses of Calsalm Nasal Spray
Directions for Use
Insert the tip of the bottle into a nostril while closing the other nostril and spray towards the sides of the nostril. Keep your head straight and breathe gently. Repeat the same process for another nostril.
Medicinal Benefits
Calsalm Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a calcitonin receptor agonist that prevents the loss of bones that happens after menopause and helps to rebuild bones. Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Calsalm Nasal Spray works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Calsalm Nasal Spray lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Calsalm Nasal Spray strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Calsalm Nasal Spray also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.
