OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON

About

OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON is used in the treatment of vomiting (being sick) and nausea (feeling sick) that usually occur after cancer chemotherapy, radiation treatment or surgery. It may also be indicated in conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and ulcers in the stomach or intestine. Nausea is an uneasy feeling in which a person feels an urge to vomit, while vomiting is forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth.

OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON is a combination of two drugs, namely Omeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Ondansetron (anti-emetic). Omeprazole reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces and prevents excess acid from flowing back into the food pipe. Ondansetron works by blocking the action of serotonin, a chemical that stimulates the vomiting centre (chemoreceptor trigger zone – CTZ) located in the brain. Thus, it prevents nausea and vomiting.

Take OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON as prescribed. Your doctor will advise you on how often you should take it based on your medical condition. OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON may cause common side effects such as headache, a feeling of warmth, constipation, diarrhoea, or flatulence (wind). Most of these side effects of OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects worsen or persist, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to omeprazole, ondansetron, granisetron, dolasetron, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole or other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor. Drive only if you are alert after taking OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON. If you are taking nelfinavir (for HIV infection) or apomorphine (for Parkinson’s disease), do not take OMEPRAZOLE+ONDANSETRON.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Nausea and vomiting: Nausea is an uneasy feeling in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. On the other hand, vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth. It can be triggered by taste, anxiety, smell, pain, or irritation of the stomach. Usually, a person experiences nausea and vomiting as the unpleasant effects of cancer therapy after chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It is essential to control vomiting and nausea in cancer patients during everyday activities. If not controlled, it can lead to mental changes, loss of appetite, malnutrition, and dehydration.
