MUPIROCIN+SUCRALFATE belongs to the class of ' Protectants and Antimicrobial agent' primarily used to treat burns, wound infections and bacterial skin infections such as impetigo. MUPIROCIN+SUCRALFATE is a combination of two medicines, namely; Sucralfate and Mupirocin. Sucralfate is a protectant with anti-inflammatory properties which forms a coating over the affected skin surface. This creates a cytoprotective effect and forms a viscous, adhesive barrier on the surface of the infected skin. It stimulates the synthesis and release of prostaglandins and the epidermal growth factor which stimulates healing. On the other hand, Mupirocin works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins that are necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply and increase in numbers, thereby preventing the growth of bacteria. Thereby, MUPIROCIN+SUCRALFATE kills bacteria and clears the infection, and reduces inflammation symptoms (burning sensation, irritation swelling, and pain).
