Healbact Ointment 20 gm

Healbact Ointment 20 gm belongs to the class of ' Protectants and Antimicrobial agent' primarily used to treat burns, wound infections and bacterial skin infections such as impetigo. A burn damages the skin or deeper tissues caused by hot liquids, fire, electricity and chemicals. The degree of severity of burns is based on the size and depth of the burn. A skin infection can occur when the skin is broken, cut, or wounded. Impetigo is a highly communicable bacterial skin infection that causes red sores on the face.

Healbact Ointment 20 gm is a combination of two medicines, namely; Sucralfate and Mupirocin. Sucralfate is a protectant with anti-inflammatory properties which forms a coating over the affected skin surface. This creates a cytoprotective effect and forms a viscous, adhesive barrier on the surface of the infected skin. It stimulates the synthesis and release of prostaglandins and the epidermal growth factor which stimulates healing. On the other hand, Mupirocin works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins that are necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply and increase in numbers, thereby preventing the growth of bacteria.  Thereby, Healbact Ointment 20 gm kills bacteria and clears the infection, and reduces inflammation symptoms (burning sensation, irritation swelling, and pain).

Healbact Ointment 20 gm is for external use only. Apply Healbact Ointment 20 gm as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to apply Healbact Ointment 20 gm for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical conditions. In some cases, you may experience a burning sensation at the application site. The side effects of Healbact Ointment 20 gm do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Brief your medical history to the doctor, if you are allergic to Healbact Ointment 20 gm or its components.  Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before using Healbact Ointment 20 gm. It is not known whether Healbact Ointment 20 gm passes into breast milk or not. It is advised to seek medical advice before using Healbact Ointment 20 gm if you are a breastfeeding mother. Do not apply Healbact Ointment 20 gm in large amounts or use it for a long time than prescribed as it does not give quick or better results but increases the risk of side effects.  Healbact Ointment 20 gm may not interact with alcohol. Healbact Ointment 20 gm may not affect your ability to drive.

Mupirocin is a topical broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent and has bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and yeasts, which contaminate skin and mucosa. It kills the bacteria that cause skin infections by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins and RNA synthesis necessary for the survival of bacteria. Collectively, Healbact Ointment 20 gm prevents the skin infection from spreading, and reduces inflammation symptoms (burning sensation, irritation swelling, and pain). This promotes the healing of burns and wounds.

Healbact Ointment 20 gm is for external use only. Do not swallow the medicine. Do not use Healbact Ointment 20 gm, if you are allergic to Healbact Ointment 20 gm or other medicines. Do not take Healbact Ointment 20 gm for longer durations unless prescribed by your doctor as a second infection may happen. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before using Healbact Ointment 20 gm. It is not known whether Healbact Ointment 20 gm passes into breast milk or not. It is advised to seek medical advice before using Healbact Ointment 20 gm if you are a breastfeeding mother. Avoid contact of Healbact Ointment 20 gm with nose, ears, mouth or eyes. In case Healbact Ointment 20 gm comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Wear sterile disposable gloves if you apply Healbact Ointment 20 gm for others and keep the treated area clean to prevent further infection. Do not cover the affected areas with bandages or dressing after applying Healbact Ointment 20 gm if the doctor did not advise. Do not apply Healbact Ointment 20 gm in large amounts or use it for a long time than prescribed as it does not give quick or better results but increases the risk of side effects. 

Drug-Drug Interactions: Healbact Ointment 20 gm may interact with an antibiotic (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, lomefloxacin, ofloxacin), medicines used to treat heart diseases (digoxin, quinidine), antiulcer (cimetidine),  antifungal (ketoconazole), used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (levothyroxine), anti-seizure (phenytoin).

Drug-Disease Interactions: Before taking Healbact Ointment 20 gm, let your doctor know if have any allergic reactions to Healbact Ointment 20 gm, tuberculosis of the skin and varicose ulcers, skin lesions caused by infections with viruses (herpes simplex, vaccinia or varicella).

• Cool down the burn immediately by placing it under running water or apply a cool and wet compress until the pain decreases.
• Remove any accessories like jewellery, belts and tight clothing you are wearing since burns can swell quickly.
• Consider getting a tetanus shot.
• Avoid harsh products on your skin.
• Do not scratch or pick your skin to avoid getting the affected area infected.
• Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.
• Do not walk barefoot at places like gym showers to prevent bacterial infections.

Please consult a dermatologist if your skin condition persists for more than 3 to 4 weeks.
