Wounsol Ointment belongs to the class of medications called antiseptics and antimicrobial agents used to treat and prevent infections in wounds, cuts, and burns. A wound is a condition in which your skin gets hurt or broken, causing skin or tissue damage and leading to bleeding or infections.

Wounsol Ointment contains povidone-iodine, ornidazole, and sucralfate. Povidone iodine and Ornidazole inhibit the growth of infection-causing organisms. Sucralfate helps form a protective barrier over the wound to promote healing, thus helping to treat wound infections.

Wounsol Ointment is for external use only. Wounsol Ointment may cause common side effects like burning, itching, irritation, and dry skin. These side effects gradually resolve during the treatment and do not require medical attention. However, please consult the doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.

Wounsol Ointment is a combination of three drugs, namely, povidone-iodine, ornidazole, and sucralfate. Povidone iodine is an antiseptic agent that works by releasing iodine and damaging the protein, fatty acids, and nucleotides of micro-organism cells. Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal agent that kills infection-causing agents by damaging their DNA. Sucralfate is an anti-ulcer medication that forms a protective barrier over the wound to help promote healing. Together, Wounsol Ointment helps treat wound infections.
