About Tametil 12.5mg Injection

Tametil 12.5mg Injection belongs to a class of antipsychotic medications called phenothiazines used to reduce symptoms of major mental disorders such as schizophrenia, and, acute mania. It is also used as a short-term treatment for anxiety. Additionally, it is used to treat symptoms of nausea and vomiting, and vertigo (dizziness) due to inner ear disorders such as Meniere’s syndrome or labyrinthitis. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave properly. Mania is a mental condition that causes intense excitement, high energy, and delusions (misbeliefs). Anxiety is a mental health disorder associated with fear, worry, and excessive nervousness that may interfere with one’s daily activities.

Tametil 12.5mg Injection contains Prochlorperazine which decreases the action of dopamine (a chemical messenger involved in transmitting messages between brain cells) in the brain and helps to control psychotic symptoms in Schizophrenia. Tametil 12.5mg Injection has a calming effect on people suffering from anxiety or mania. Also, Tametil 12.5mg Injection works by inhibiting dopamine receptors that stimulate the vomiting centre (chemoreceptor trigger zone – CTZ) located in the brain. Thus, Tametil 12.5mg Injection prevents nausea and vomiting.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Nausea and vomiting: Nausea is a feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often comes before vomiting. On the other hand, vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth. In short, nausea and vomiting are not diseases but are symptoms of many conditions like infections, motion sickness, an early stage of pregnancy, and gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying). A receptor in our brain known as the chemoreceptor zone (CTZ) controls vomiting.

Schizophrenia: It is a mental disorder that affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave clearly.

Mania: It is a mental condition that causes intense excitement, high energy, and delusions (misbeliefs). Mania may occur due to lack of sleep or changes in sleep patterns, high levels of stress, and alcohol intake.

Anxiety: It is a mental health disorder associated with fear, worry, and excessive nervousness that may interfere with one’s daily activities. The symptoms of anxiety include feeling more stress than required for that event and a lack of ability to set aside restlessness and worry.

Meniere’s syndrome: It is a disorder of the inner ear that causes vertigo (spinning), hearing loss, and ringing in the ears.
