About Soloflox 400mg Tablet

Soloflox 400mg Tablet belongs to the group of antibiotic medicines called fluoroquinolones indicated in the treatment of mild to moderate bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections and bronchitis. Bacterial infections are caused due to the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body.

Soloflox 400mg Tablet contains Lomefloxacin, that works by interfering with the activity of topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which are necessary for the transcription and replication of bacterial DNA. Thereby, Soloflox 400mg Tablet fights bacteria in the body and treats bacterial infection.

In some cases, Soloflox 400mg Tablet may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to the doctor if any of the side effects persist or worsen.

Consult the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Soloflox 400mg Tablet is not recommended for children below 18 years as it might interfere with bone development. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking and your health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects/interactions.

Medicinal Benefits

Soloflox 400mg Tablet belongs to the group of antibiotic medicines called fluoroquinolones indicated in the treatment of mild to moderate bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections and bronchitis (inflammation of the airways). Soloflox 400mg Tablet contains Lomefloxacin, that works by interfering with the activity of topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, which are necessary for the transcription and replication of bacterial DNA. Thereby, Soloflox 400mg Tablet fights bacteria in the body and treats bacterial infection. 

Directions for Use

Take Soloflox 400mg Tablet with or without food. Swallow it as a whole with a full glass of water; do not crush or chew it.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

Side Effects of Soloflox 400mg Tablet

Drug Warnings

Do not take Soloflox 400mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its components. Avoid exposure to direct and indirect sunlight (even when using sunscreen) while on treatment with Soloflox 400mg Tablet and for several days following the treatment, as it may cause skin sensitivity to sunlight. The risk of phototoxicity can be reduced by taking Soloflox 400mg Tablet in the evening, at least 12 hours before exposure to the sun. Soloflox 400mg Tablet should be discontinued if signs or symptoms of photosensitivity such as sensation of skin burning, swelling, redness, rash, blisters, dermatitis or itching occur. Soloflox 400mg Tablet may cause peripheral neuropathy and tendon effects. Consult the doctor if you experience symptoms of peripheral neuropathy such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and /or weakness, (or) symptoms of tendon effects like pain, inflammation, or rupture of a tendon. Let the doctor know if you have kidney problems, seizures or epilepsy.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking steroids (dexamethasone), anti-diabetic (glipizide), and NSAID (aspirin).

Drug-Disease Interactions: Inform the doctor if you have colitis, CNS disorders, myasthenia gravis (neuromuscular disease), peripheral neuropathy, tendonitis (inflammation of tendons), diabetes, crystalluria (presence of crystals in urine), or kidney problems.

  • Antibiotics can alter the useful bacteria in the stomach, which help in digestion. Therefore, you are advised to take foods rich in probiotics, such as yoghurt/curd, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, kimchi, miso, kombucha, buttermilk, natto and cheese.
  • Eat fibre-rich food like whole grains, beans, lentils, berries, broccoli, peas and bananas.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol and usage of tobacco.

Special Advise

  • Drink plenty of fluids every day to prevent lomefloxacin crystals from forming in the urine.
  • If you experience diarrhoea, consult the doctor, as anti-bacterial agents may cause pseudomembranous colitis (severe inflammation of the inner lining of the large intestine).
  • Maintain a gap of 2 hours between Soloflox 400mg Tablet and vitamin/mineral supplements.
  • Sucralfate and antacids containing aluminium or magnesium should not be taken within 4 hours before or 2 hours after taking Soloflox 400mg Tablet.
