Monospas Tablet is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affecting the lungs, but it can also spread to other parts of the body, including the kidneys, brain, spine, and bone marrow. Monospas Tablet is ineffective for treating colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Monospas Tablet contains sodium aminosalicylate. It works by exerting its bacteriostatic effect against Mycobacterium tuberculosis by competing with PABA for enzymes involved in folate synthesis, thereby suppressing the growth and reproduction of the bacteria, ultimately leading to cell death.

You are advised to take Monospas Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects like diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Most of these symptoms resolve gradually on their own over time. However, consult the doctor if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Do not take Monospas Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as it may cause potential risk to the foetus and may pass into breast milk. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how Monospas Tablet affects you. Monospas Tablet is safe for children if prescribed by the doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption and smoking during treatment with Monospas Tablet as it may cause unpleasant side effects. Inform your doctor about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side effects/interactions.

Monospas Tablet belongs to the group of medications called anti-infectives. It is used in combination with other medicines for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). • Nausea

Take Monospas Tablet with food to prevent stomach irritation or as advised by your doctor. Dissolve Monospas Tablet in a required amount of boiled (cooled to room temperature) water and drink it immediately.

Inform your doctor if you have any of the following pre-existing medical conditions such as kidney or liver disorders, heart failure, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, phenylketonuria, lactose intolerance, stomach ulcers, hypersensitivity to salicylates or sulphonamides, thyroid problems, or if you have been advised to limit your salt intake. Inform your doctor if you have nutritional issues like Vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency, or malabsorption syndrome, as it may worsen these conditions, and you might need Vitamin B12 supplements. Do not take Monospas Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have duodenal or stomach ulcer and myxoedema (a chronic disease caused by an underactive thyroid gland). Avoid taking Monospas Tablet if you have severe kidney insufficiency, severe liver insufficiency, or severe heart failure.

• Pineapple juice might help soothe the symptoms of cough and cold. It also has anti-inflammatory and mucolytic properties.
• Include foods rich in vitamin C, like kiwi, broccoli, and bell pepper, to help improve the immune system.
• Avoid processed and fried foods.
• Warm ginger tea or warm soup can help relieve cough.
• Avoid foods and drinks containing tyramine or histamine, such as cured meat, matured cheese, soya, tuna, salmon, mackerel, wine, and beer.
• Avoid consumption of alcohol and quit smoking.
