Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as spastic colon, irritable colon, spastic colitis, or mucous colitis, is a gastrointestinal disorder that mainly affects the large intestine. It is a group of intestinal symptoms that occur together. The exact cause is unknown, but common causes of IBS are acidity, stress, carbonated foods and beverages, irregular hormone levels, eating/drinking habits, food allergies and intolerances, and certain foods and medications. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, gas, constipation, and/or diarrhoea.
Smooth muscle spasms: It is the sudden involuntary contractions of the smooth muscle, which can be painful and uncomfortable. When the nerve impulses that control the muscle movements are damaged or interrupted, it could lead to muscle spasms. Symptoms include pain, bloating, and cramps. Irritable bowel syndrome, gas, constipation, and muscle strain could be the causes of gastrointestinal muscle spasms.
