About Famic-M Cream

Famic-M Cream is used to treat bacterial skin infections, such as eczema and dermatitis, nasal polyps (painless growth on the lining of the nose or sinuses), dermatoses (lesions or eruptions of the skin) and impetigo (red sores on the face). Bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause disease. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly.

Famic-M Cream is composed of two medicines: Mometasone (corticosteroid) and Fusidic acid (antibiotic). Mometasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. Corticosteroids have anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and antiproliferative (inhibit cell growth) properties. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. On the other hand, Fusidic acid is an antibiotic and prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. It is used to treat infections like dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), spots, cuts, grazes, impetigo (weeping, crusty and swollen patches of skin) and folliculitis (inflammation of one or more hair follicles).

Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Famic-M Cream has common side effects like itching, dryness, redness and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects usually do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if you face any other symptoms or the side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to Famic-M Cream or other medications. Famic-M Cream is not recommended for diaper rash. Mometasone may increase the risk of infection in patients exposed to viral illnesses like chickenpox or measles. Do not use Famic-M Cream on sensitive areas like nostrils, ears, lips or genitals if the doctor did not advise you. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Famic-M Cream.

Famic-M Cream consists of Mometasone and Fusidic acid. Mometasone, a corticosteroid, works by blocking prostaglandin's production (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. Fusidic acid is an antibiotic and prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.
Famic-M Cream is for topical (for skin) use only. Do not put bandage or dressing on the affected area while treating with Famic-M Cream unless the doctor advised. If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina, rinse with cold water. Do not apply Famic-M Cream on open wounds, lesions and blisters.
Please consult your doctor before using Famic-M Cream if you have other viral/fungal skin infections, diaper rash, diabetes, Cushing's disease (high cortisol levels), cataract and glaucoma, heart, liver and kidney diseases. Let your doctor know if your allergic to Famic-M Cream or any of its components.
No, Famic-M Cream is not recommended to use for diaper rash, since Mometasone in Famic-M Cream can be systemically absorbed and cause adrenal suppression, Cushing's syndrome and intracranial hypertension (pressure of the fluid that surrounds the brain). Your baby's paediatrician may suggest other medications for the treatment of diaper rash.
Famic-M Cream, when used for longer periods, can cause thinning and weakening of the skin. Please stop using Famic-M Cream and immediately consult your doctor if you notice these symptoms.
No, do not stop using Famic-M Cream on your own even if the symptoms are relieved until your full course advised by the doctor is finished.
It is only for external use. Take a small amount and apply a thin layer to the affected area; gently massage it until fully absorbed. Wash your hands afterwards unless they are in the affected area. Use the medication exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the recommended dosage and duration of treatment. Avoid applying it to sensitive areas, broken skin, or eyes, and discontinue use if you experience any irritation or allergic reactions.
No, you are not recommended to use more than recommended. Using it too much or for too long can cause more side effects, reduced effectiveness and allergic reactions. Remember to use it responsibly and follow your doctor's guidance.
Store Famic-M Cream in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not throw away any leftover medication; return it to your pharmacist or doctor. Dispose of the medication responsibly and environmentally friendly. Common side effects of Famic-M Cream may include itching, dryness, redness and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects usually do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if you face any other symptoms or the side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.
Children under 12 years old can only use Famic-M Cream under a doctor's supervision. The doctor will determine the right dosage based on the child's age and weight, so be sure to follow their instructions carefully.
Don't use Famic-M Cream for longer than your doctor prescribed. Using it too long can cause more side effects, worsen your skin condition, and even lead to resistant bacteria. This means the medication might not work as well, and the infection could become harder to treat. Stick to the prescribed duration and talk to your doctor if you need to continue treatment. They'll check your progress and advise on the best next steps.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it's almost time for your next dose.
Do not apply Famic-M Cream in large amounts or use it longer than recommended. This does not give quick or better results but increases the risk of side effects.
If you accidentally swallow Famic-M Cream, call your doctor or poison control centre IMMEDIATELY. Tell them exactly how much you swallowed. If you start feeling sick or have symptoms like vomiting, stomach pain, or dizziness, GET MEDICAL HELP RIGHT AWAY.
Use it for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Using it for too long can lead to side effects and reduced effectiveness. On the other hand, using it for too short a period may not effectively clear up the infection, so be sure to complete the full treatment course as directed.
