About Ascovent Syrup

Ascovent Syrup belongs to the bronchodilator class of drugs used to prevent and treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) symptoms. Asthma is a chronic (long-term) respiratory condition in which airways narrow, swell, and produce extra mucus, leading to difficulty in breathing. COPD is a group of lung diseases with emphysema (shortness of breath) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes).

Ascovent Syrup contains Acebrophylline, which relaxes muscles and widens the lungs' airways. Additionally, it helps reduce the mucus's viscosity in the airway and facilitates breathing. It helps to cough out easily and makes breathing easier by opening airways.

Use Ascovent Syrup as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to use Ascovent Syrup for as long as your doctor has prescribed it based on your child's medical condition. The common side-effects of Ascovent Syrup are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, heartburn, stomach discomfort, skin rash or drowsiness. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or you notice any unusual symptoms developing in the child, inform your doctor immediately.

Inform your doctor about the complete medical history of your children. Do not use any other medications or supplements with Ascovent Syrup unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not exceed the stated recommended dose.

Uses of Ascovent Syrup

Treatment of Asthma and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Medicinal Benefits

Ascovent Syrup is a bronchodilator and mucolytic (mucus thinner) medication used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) symptoms. Ascovent Syrup acts by relaxing muscles and expanding the lungs' airways. Furthermore, Ascovent Syrup aids in the thinning and loosening of phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose. As a result, it facilitates coughing and makes breathing easier by opening airways.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Make your child eat a healthy diet, especially green leafy vegetables, and strictly do not consume caffeinated products (coffee, tea, cola drinks, and chocolate).
  • Let your child drink fluids daily to thin mucus and make coughing easier.
  • Maintaining hygiene, like washing hands after coming from outside, is essential, as people with asthma/COPD are at a greater risk of infections.
  • Physical activities improve the quality of life and increase tolerance to shortness of breath.
  • Shortness of breath can be eased by doing pursed-lip breathing exercises. In this, relax your neck and shoulder muscles, breathe in with your nose for two seconds and breathe out through pursed lips for four seconds. Breathing techniques and such exercises will help you to improve your breathing capacity and lung health.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Asthma: It is a breathing problem in which airways narrow, swell, and may produce extra mucus, leading to breathing difficulty with a whistling sound (wheezing) in laboured breathing conditions. There is no cure, but basic treatments can help keep the symptoms under control so that they do not interfere with your life.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): It is a group of progressive lung diseases with emphysema (shortness of breath) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of bronchial tubes). Initially, it may be mild, but it can lead to total blockage of airways and severe lung damage in severe cases.
