Amicet Syrup is a respiratory medication used to treat symptoms associated with chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic rhinitis, and respiratory tract infections, such as cough, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. COPD is a group of lung diseases that mainly include emphysema (shortness of breath) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes). Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nose caused by an allergen, such as pollen, dust, mould, or flakes of skin from certain animals.

Amicet Syrup consists of two medicines: Levocetirizine (anti-histamine) and Ambroxol (mucolytic agent). Levocetirizine is an antihistamine (anti-allergic) drug that reduces the effects of histamine, a chemical substance that causes allergies like runny nose and skin rash. It is used to treat relieve symptoms, such as watery eyes, runny nose, itchy eyes/nose, sneezing, and itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives). Ambroxol is an 'expectorant' that promotes the secretion of sputum/cough. It is also a 'mucolytic agent' that makes sputum less viscous and makes breathing easier.

Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of the course based on the severity of your disease. Do not stop taking Amicet Syrup on your own until the doctor advises you to do so. Like every other medication, Amicet Syrup also has common side effects like upset stomach, dryness in the mouth, headache, fatigue, and sleepiness. These side effects, if occurred, generally go away during the treatment. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to medicines. It is mandatory to inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, kidney diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, stomach ulcers, prostate enlargement, urinary retention, and diabetes before taking Amicet Syrup. Please check with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol while taking Amicet Syrup, since it can worsen the side effects like dizziness and sleepiness. Amicet Syrup should be cautiously used in children when advised by the doctor.

Please consult your doctor before using Amicet Syrup if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or are a breastfeeding mother. Avoid consuming alcohol with Amicet Syrup as it could lead to increased drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive if you feel sleepy after taking Amicet Syrup.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Amicet Syrup may interact with anti-allergic drugs (diphenhydramine), antidepressants (duloxetine), anticonvulsants (pregabalin), and antianxiety drugs (alprazolam).

Drug-Food Interaction: Limit alcohol intake since it may worsen the side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Amicet Syrup should be administered with caution in patients with heart, liver, and kidney diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, stomach ulcers, prostate enlargement, and urinary retention.

• Take the medication as directed by the doctor and at regular intervals. Do not use other over the counter medications, herbal or vitamin supplements without informing your pharmacist or doctor when you take Amicet Syrup.

• Quit smoking and avoid passive smoking. Smoking may reduce the effectiveness of the medicine.

• Learning breathing exercises will help you move more air in and out of your lungs.
• Avoid consumption of alcohol with Amicet Syrup as it may cause tiredness, drowsiness or lack of concentration.
