IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE

About

IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE is an antidiabetic medicine used for the treatment of Type II Diabetes. Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a serious condition wherein the body doesn’t use insulin effectively, which causes unusual blood glucose levels. Type II diabetes patients either do not create enough insulin, or the insulin they do make does not accomplish its purpose in the body (insulin resistance). This condition mostly occurs in middle-aged or older patients.

IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE contains Imeglimin, which belongs to the amino triazines class of antidiabetic medicine. It works in two ways: 1) increased glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and cell mass preservation; 2) improved insulin action, including the potential for reduction of hepatic glucose output and improvement in insulin signalling in both the liver and skeletal muscle. Diet management and exercise, along with treatment of IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE are used to control blood sugar levels.

IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE may cause certain side effects such as vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, headache and allergic reactions. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor. IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food. The dose of the medicine will be decided by the doctor based on your disease condition.

IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE should be avoided if you are allergic to any of the medicines or the components in it. Inform your doctor about your medical history and the medicines you are taking, including herbs and supplements, before starting the treatment with IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE. This can help prevent unwanted effects. IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver or kidney disease. It is unknown whether IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE can be given to pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. Hence, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE. It is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age.

    • Avoid drinking alcohol while on IMEGLIMIN HYDROCHLORIDE as it increases the risk of hypoglycemia (decrease in blood sugar, which might be fatal in some cases) and lactic acidosis (when the lactic acid increases in the body, which impacts the functioning of various organs in the body).
    • Lifestyle modifications are the most important step in controlling blood sugar levels.
    • Your doctor may advise frequent blood tests to check your blood sugar levels.

Therefore, people affected with type 2 diabetes either do not produce enough insulin or there is resistance to the action of insulin. Individuals middle-aged or older are most likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes, which is also known as adult-onset diabetes. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include increased thirst, frequent urination at night, slow wound healing, increased hunger, fatigue, weight gain, and blurred vision. The complication of type 2 diabetes also includes neuropathy (nerve problems), nephropathy (kidney problems), retinopathy (damaged retina of eyes or blindness), loss of limbs, sexual dysfunction, and increased chance of heart attack or stroke.
