About Winfield Ointment

Winfield Ointment is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat eczema, psoriasis, skin irritation and inflammation caused by burns, insect bites, fungal infections. Eczema is a condition in which skin patches become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply up to 10 times faster than usual, leading to skin build-up into bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales. These commonly appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. 

Winfield Ointment is composed of two medicines: Salicylic acid and Benzoic acid. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates, and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin), which breaks down the clumps of keratin, removes dead skin cells, and softens the skin. Salicylic acid is also an anti-inflammatory agent and topical antibacterial agent. Benzoic acid is a fungistatic/antiseptic agent and works by inhibiting the growth of fungi. It is also used as an antimicrobial preservative.

Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Winfield Ointment is for topical (for skin use) only. If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Winfield Ointment has common side effects like warmth or a burning sensation, skin irritation, itching and redness at the application site. The burning sensation may usually last for five minutes after application.

Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to Winfield Ointment other medications. Do not put a dressing or bandage on the affected area unless the doctor advised doing so. Winfield Ointment should not be applied on mucous membranes, lesions, and large areas of skin. Directions for Use

It is only for external use. Take a small amount and apply it as a thin layer on the clean and dry affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid contact with the nose, mouth or eyes. In case of accidental contact with these areas, rinse with water thoroughly.
