Ferrogen-XT Tablet is used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid, which works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBC is produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets sufficient supply of oxygen. In some cases, it may cause side effects such as vomiting, nausea, stomach upset or dark coloured stool. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Ferrogen-XT Tablet

Ferrogen-XT Tablet belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells for carrying adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.

Ferrogen-XT Tablet is a combination of two drugs: Ferrous ascorbate (iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). Ferrogen-XT Tablet works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBC is produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets sufficient supply of oxygen.

Take Ferrogen-XT Tablet as advised by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, stomach upset or dark coloured stool. Most of these side effects of Ferrogen-XT Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Ferrogen-XT Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Ferrogen-XT Tablet . Ferrogen-XT Tablet should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you have an allergy to any sugars, inform your doctor before taking Ferrogen-XT Tablet as it may contain lactose. If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking Ferrogen-XT Tablet .

Uses of Ferrogen-XT Tablet

Treatment of anaemia.

Directions for Use

Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by your doctor, and swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it.Syrup/Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

How does the drug interact with Ferrogen-XT Tablet 10's:
Coadministration of Ferrogen-XT Tablet 10's and Fluorouracil may increase the effects of Fluorouracil and increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anaemia (lack of blood), infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Ferrogen-XT Tablet 10's and Fluorouracil, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience diarrhoea, paleness of skin, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body pains, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact your doctor.

Although there is a possible interaction between Ferrogen-XT Tablet 10's and Carbamazepine, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if your condition changes or you experience loss of seizure control, contact your doctor.

Although taking Cholestyramine and Ferrogen-XT Tablet 10's together can result in an interaction, they can be taken together if prescribed by a doctor. However, if you experience Constipation, Diarrhea, Stomach pain, Nausea, or Loss of appetite, consult a doctor. Do not stop using any medications without consulting a doctor.

FAQs

Ferrogen-XT Tablet is used for the treatment of anaemia.
You are not recommended to take Ferrogen-XT Tablet with coffee, tea or dairy products at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of Ferrogen-XT Tablet . However, you may drink coffee or tea 2 hours before or after taking Ferrogen-XT Tablet .
You are not recommended to take Ferrogen-XT Tablet with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the concentration of Ferrogen-XT Tablet in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, please consult a doctor before taking Ferrogen-XT Tablet with phenytoin.
Ferrogen-XT Tablet is not recommended for hemochromatosis (excessive iron in the body) patients as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, it is advised to inform your doctor if you have any iron overload conditions before taking Ferrogen-XT Tablet .
