Fefol Spansule Capsule is used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Iron and Folic acid, which work by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. It may cause side effects such as constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Fefol Spansule Capsule

Fefol Spansule Capsule belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen required to various body tissues. 

Fefol Spansule Capsule is a combination drug containing Iron and Folic acid (haematinics combination) primarily used to treat anaemia. Fefol Spansule Capsule works by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. 

Take Fefol Spansule Capsule as directed by your doctor. You may experience constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Most of these side effects of Fefol Spansule Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Do not take Fefol Spansule Capsule if you are allergic to Fefol Spansule Capsule , iron, folic acid or any of the ingredients of Fefol Spansule Capsule . Do not start taking any new medication without telling your doctor. Fefol Spansule Capsule is generally given at least 4 weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy. Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

What if I have taken an overdose of Fefol Spansule Capsule

Do not take more than the suggested dose of Fefol Spansule Capsule as it may cause overdose. The symptoms of overdose include vomiting, severe stomach pain, shallow breathing, bloody diarrhea, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, weak and rapid pulse, blue lips, pale skin, and seizures (fits). If you suspect you have taken overdose or notice signs of overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Co-administration of Fefol Spansule Capsule with Capecitabine may increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anemia, infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Fefol Spansule Capsule and Capecitabine, you can use these medicines together if prescribed by the doctor. However, if you experience paleness of skin, diarrhea, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body aches, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling sensation in the hands and feet, contact a doctor. Daily oral iron and folic acid supplementation with 30-60 mg of elemental iron and 400 µg (0.4 mg) folic acid is recommended for pregnant women to prevent puerperal sepsis, maternal anaemia, low birth weight, and preterm birth.

Folic acid is rich in various foods like broccoli, brussels sprouts, liver, spinach, and asparagus, while iron is found in dark-green leafy vegetables, fortified cereals, nuts, and dried fruit.
