SUPERHIST SYRUP is used to treat cough. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the cough centre in the brain to the muscles that produce cough, thereby decreasing the urge to cough. Also, it blocks the action of histamine, responsible for causing allergic reactions. It irritates the airways, which increases the production of respiratory tract fluids and decreases the stickiness of mucus that can be coughed out easily. Thus, it helps remove mucus from the airways and helps with easy breathing. Some people may experience dry mouth, throat or nose, nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, restlessness, or nervousness. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About SUPERHIST SYRUP
SUPERHIST SYRUP belongs to a class of medications called ‘expectorants’ primarily used to treat cough. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body’s way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus, or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. There are two types of coughs, namely: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) means mucous or sputum is produced to help clear your airways.
SUPERHIST SYRUP contains four medicines, namely: Dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), Chlorpheniramine (antihistamine/antiallergic), Guaifenesin (expectorant), and Ammonium chloride (irritative agent). Dextromethorphan belongs to the class of cough suppressants that work by blocking the transmission of nerve signals from the cough centre in the brain to the muscles that produce cough, thereby decreasing the urge to cough. Chlorpheniramine belongs to the class of antihistamines (anti-allergic drugs) that work by blocking the action of histamine and is responsible for causing allergic reactions. It also provides relief from allergic symptoms such as sneezing, running nose, watery eyes, itching, swelling, congestion or stiffness. Guaifenesin and Ammonium chloride belong to the class of irritants and expectorants that work by irritating the airways, which increases the production of respiratory tract fluids and decreases the stickiness of mucus that can be coughed out easily. Thus, together, SUPERHIST SYRUP helps remove mucus from the airways and helps with easy breathing, especially.
Take SUPERHIST SYRUP as prescribed. Your doctor will recommend how often you take SUPERHIST SYRUP based on your medical condition. Some people may experience dry mouth, throat or nose, nausea, stomach upset, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, restlessness, or nervousness. Most of these side effects of SUPERHIST SYRUP do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to SUPERHIST SYRUP or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to inform your doctor before using SUPERHIST SYRUP. SUPERHIST SYRUP is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Drink plenty of fluids while taking SUPERHIST SYRUP to loosen mucus.
