Siodryl Syrup is used to treat cough. It contains Chlorpheniramine maleate, Ammonium chloride, Sodium citrate, and Menthol. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of histamine, which is responsible for causing allergic reactions. Ammonium chloride irritates the airways, increasing respiratory tract fluid production and decreasing the stickiness of mucus that can be coughed out easily. Sodium citrate works by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose. Menthol provides relief from minor throat irritation by giving a cooling sensation. Together, they help to relieve the cough.
