About Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection

Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection belongs to the group of medicines called electrolyte replacement solutions indicated in the treatment of potassium deficiency when oral treatment is not feasible or dietary measures are inadequate.

Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection contains ‘Potassium chloride’, which works by replenishing the potassium, thereby treating hypokalaemia/potassium deficiency. 

In some cases, Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection may cause side effects such as pain at the site of injection, nausea, muscle weakness, and tingling sensation. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.

Side Effects of Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection

Drug Warnings

Do not take Potassium Chloride 1.5gm Injection if you are allergic to any of its components, if you have hyperkalaemia (high potassium levels), impaired kidney function, Addison’s disease (hormonal disorder), if you are very dehydrated, have heat cramps, or hyperchloraemia (electrolyte disturbance in which there is an abnormally elevated level of the chloride ion in the blood). Inform your doctor if you have heart disease or have had a severe injury such as a burn. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene), other medicines containing potassium, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II antagonists, anti-hypertensives (aliskiren), immunosuppressants (ciclosporin, tacrolimus), infusion to treat dehydration (glucose infusion).
