Onimex Syrup belongs to the class of medicines called 'expectorants' primarily used to treat cough associated with mucus. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body's mechanism to remove irritants from the airways and prevent infection. Coughs are classified into two types: dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough does not produce mucus, whereas a chesty cough (wet cough) produces mucous or sputum to help clear the airways.
Onimex Syrup is a combination of two drugs: Ambroxol hydrochloride (mucolytic agent) and Guaiphenesin (expectorant). Ambroxol hydrochloride acts by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose. Guaiphenesin raises the volume of fluid in the airways, lowers the stickiness of mucus, and aids in its removal from the airways. Thereby, Onimex Syrup helps provide relief from cough.
