About Ocanat-10mg Tablet

Ocanat-10mg Tablet is used to treat primary biliary cirrhosis. Primary biliary cholangitis, also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, is an autoimmune disease caused by damage of bile ducts in the liver. Biliary cirrhosis causes a build-up of bile in the liver, which leads to liver damage.  
 
Ocanat-10mg Tablet contains ‘Obeticholic acid’, which helps improve liver function by reducing the production and build-up of bile in the liver, increases the removal of bile from the liver, and reduces inflammation, thereby helping treat primary biliary cirrhosis.
 
Take Ocanat-10mg Tablet as prescribed. In some cases, you may experience common side effects such as stomach pain, tiredness, dizziness, constipation, and palpitations. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.
 
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ocanat-10mg Tablet is not recommended for children and adolescents. Ocanat-10mg Tablet may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. It is unknown if alcohol interacts with Ocanat-10mg Tablet ; consult your doctor if you have any concerns. Ocanat-10mg Tablet belongs to a group of medicines called farnesoid X-receptor agonists used to treat primary biliary cirrhosis/primary biliary cholangitis. Ocanat-10mg Tablet helps improve liver function by reducing the production and build-up of bile in the liver and reduces inflammation, thereby helping treat primary biliary cirrhosis.

Do not take Ocanat-10mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its contents; if you have a complete blockage of the biliary tract (liver, bile ducts, and gall bladder). Ocanat-10mg Tablet is not recommended for children or adolescents. Ocanat-10mg Tablet may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. What if I have taken an overdose of Ocanat-10mg Tablet

Take Ocanat-10mg Tablet only as prescribed by the physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. Symptoms of overdose may include yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark-coloured urine, loss of appetite, pain in the upper right part of the stomach, nausea, vomiting, or swelling in the area around the stomach. If you experience any of these symptoms or suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Constipation might be a side-effect of Ocanat-10mg Tablet . Drink lots of fluids and eat fibre-rich food if you experience constipation. Talk to your doctor if you have severe constipation.
Consult your doctor before taking Ocanat-10mg Tablet along with bile acid-binding resins, as they might lower the effect of Ocanat-10mg Tablet . If prescribed, maintain a gap of 4-6hours between Ocanat-10mg Tablet and bile acid-binding resins. Bile acid-binding resins are used to lower blood cholesterol levels.
Ocanat-10mg Tablet may cause palpitation, a sensation that the heart is racing, pounding, or fluttering. A minor fluctuation should not be a worry; however, if palpitations continue or you begin to feel unwell, speak with your doctor.
Ocanat-10mg Tablet is used to treat primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), an autoimmune liver disease. Adults with PBC and individuals who haven't responded to other treatments may need to take OCA, but only if advised by their doctor.
