Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml is a mineral supplement, and an anticonvulsant primarily used to prevent and control seizures (fits) in preeclampsia and eclampsia (serious complications in pregnancy that occur due to high blood pressure). Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml is also used to treat hypomagnesaemia, a condition characterized by abnormally low magnesium levels in the blood.
Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml contains Magnesium sulfate. It is a mineral supplement and an electrolyte. It prevents and controls seizures by blocking neuromuscular transmission, the transfer of nerve impulses to the heart. It further has a depressant effect on the central nervous system and acts peripherally to cause vasodilation.
Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml will be administered by a healthcare professional. It causes some side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, flushing, and sweating. Most of these effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, if any of these side effects persist or worsen, please seek medical advice.
Before receiving Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml, let your doctor know if you have kidney/liver/heart diseases, dehydration, stomach/gastrointestinal disorders, myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness) and sensitivities. Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of kidney/liver/heart diseases, dehydration, stomach/gastrointestinal disorders, alcohol dependence, and myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness) before starting Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml. Let your doctor know if you are a pregnant or breastfeeding woman before taking Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml. Avoid alcohol consumption while undergoing treatment with Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml as it might interact and increase the occurrence of side effects. Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml can cause dizziness and drowsiness affecting your ability to drive; hence drive only when you are alert and focused. Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml is not recommended in children younger than 12 years of age.
Drug-Drug Interactions: Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml may interact with blood pressure medicines (nifedipine, nimodipine), heart-related medicines (digitalis), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), antifungals (amphotericin B), muscle relaxants (tubocurarine), chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin) aminoglycoside antibiotics, and water pills.
Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid the intake of alcohol and caffeinated drinks while using Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml to prevent any interactions.
Drug-Disease Interactions: Inform your doctor about myasthenia gravis, liver/kidney/heart diseases, alcohol dependence, dehydration, and stomach/gastrointestinal disorders. Magnesium sulfate is not recommended for use in severely impaired renal function. It should not be used in a hepatic coma if there is a risk of renal failure.
Pre-eclampsia: It is a pregnancy complication caused in pregnancy due to high blood pressure. Symptoms include protein in the urine, swelling of the hands and face, shortness of breath, and abdominal pain.
Eclampsia: It is a complication that is characterized by convulsions/seizures during a woman's pregnancy or shortly after giving birth. Symptoms include upper-right abdominal pain, severe headache and vision and mental status changes.
Fits/Seizure: It is characterized as a sudden and uncontrollable electrical disturbance in the brain. Symptoms include uncontrolled jerking movements of the arms and legs, loss of consciousness, and temporary confusion.
Hypomagnesaemia: It is a condition that occurs when a person has abnormally low levels of magnesium. This occurs when a person does not get enough magnesium in their diet, or he/she is unable to absorb magnesium properly. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, weakness, personality changes, tremor, fatigue, seizures, irregular heartbeat, and high blood pressure.

Magxel 1000 mg Injection 2 ml is a pregnancy category D drug and has shown harmful effects on the foetus. However, seizure control is mandatory during eclampsia in pregnancy. Breast Feeding
