Katcef-LB Tablet belongs to a group of antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, sinuses (sinusitis), throat (tonsillitis, pharyngitis), lungs (bronchitis, pneumonia), and urinary system (cystitis and kidney infections). Infectious or harmful bacteria can make you sick and reproduce quickly in your body. These harmful bacteria produce toxins, damaging tissue and making you sick.
Katcef-LB Tablet contains Cefixime (antibiotic) and Lactic Acid Bacillus (beneficial lactic acid-producing bacteria). Cefixime kills the bacterial cell by blocking the chemical (mucopeptides) released by the bacteria's outer layer (cell wall). In turn, Katcef-LB Tablet weakens and destroys the bacterial cell wall. It is a broad range of antibiotics that helps in fighting various types of bacteria. Lactic Acid Bacillus is a beneficial lactic acid-producing bacteria (good bacteria) that supports the growth of friendly bacteria in the intestine, maintaining a healthy balance of microflora in the gut environment. Lactic Acid Bacillus prevents diarrhoea due to a prolonged intake of Katcef-LB Tablet . Thus, together Katcef-LB Tablet helps in the prevention of infections. Katcef-LB Tablet will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Take Katcef-LB Tablet with or without food. It should be swallowed as a whole, do not crush or chew the tablet. The dose and duration of Katcef-LB Tablet can vary depending on your condition and the severity of the infection. It is also recommended to complete the course of medicine even if you feel better, as it is an antibiotic. Leaving it in between may lead to severe infection that will stop responding to the antibiotic (antibiotic resistance). Sometimes, you may experience certain common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, and Headache. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Before starting Katcef-LB Tablet , please inform your doctor if you have any allergies (against any antibiotic) or kidney or liver problems. Do not take Katcef-LB Tablet on your own, as self-medication may lead to antibiotic resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking Katcef-LB Tablet . As far as it is known, Katcef-LB Tablet may be used in pregnancy. Consideration should be given to discontinuing nursing temporarily during treatment with Katcef-LB Tablet .

In some cases, the use of Katcef-LB Tablet causes antibiotic-associated diarrhoea; however, Lactic Acid Bacillus in this medicine prevents these symptoms. Inform your doctor if you have phenylketonuria (PKU), as Katcef-LB Tablet may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before taking Katcef-LB Tablet if you have diabetes as Katcef-LB Tablet liquid dosage form contains sucrose. Long-term use of Katcef-LB Tablet may affect your blood, kidney, and liver health, so a yearly diagnostics test of these parameters is recommended. Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have epilepsy, diabetes, stomach problems, or kidney or liver problems. Consult your doctor before using Katcef-LB Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Katcef-LB Tablet is not recommended for use in children below ten years old unless recommended by a doctor.
Drug-Drug Interactions: Katcef-LB Tablet may interact with certain vaccines (e.g. BCG, cholera vaccine, typhoid vaccine)
Drug-Food Interactions: Katcef-LB Tablet may interact with alcohol or alcoholic beverages.
Drug-Disease Interactions: Katcef-LB Tablet may interact with disease conditions, including colitis (inflammation of the colon's inner lining), renal dysfunction, liver disease, and seizure disorders.

There is no evidence to suggest that Katcef-LB Tablet may affect driving ability. Discuss with your doctor if you have any concerns or unusual sleepiness or drowsiness after taking Katcef-LB Tablet .
Liver
Caution
If you have liver problems, inform your doctor before taking Katcef-LB Tablet . Your doctor may adjust the dose or prescribe a suitable alternative based on your condition.
Kidney
Caution
Katcef-LB Tablet to be taken with caution, especially if you have a history of kidney diseases/conditions. Also, the Katcef-LB Tablet may cause small changes to the way kidneys work. The dose may have to be adjusted by your doctor. Your doctor may monitor your kidney function while on treatment with this medicine.
