About Fosfocide 4Gm Inj

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections. Fosfocide 4Gm Inj is used to treat bacterial meningitis (infection of membranes protecting the brain and spinal cord), complicated urinary tract infections, bacterial infections of bones and joints, heart, lungs, central nervous system, stomach, blood, skin, and tissues below the skin. Bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly.

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj contains Fosfomycin which works by inhibiting the formation of the bacterial cell walls (a protective covering) that is necessary for their survival. Thereby killing bacteria. Also, Fosfocide 4Gm Inj decreases the attachment of bacteria to cells lining the urinary bladder.

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj will be administered by a healthcare professional. Do not self-administer. You may sometimes experience gastrointestinal disturbances, taste disturbances, or injection site reactions. Most of these side effects of Fosfocide 4Gm Inj do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj contains Fosfomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria that grow aerobically (in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobically (in the absence of oxygen). Bacterial meningitis (infection of the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord), complicated urinary tract infections, bacterial infections of bones and joints, heart, lungs, central nervous system, stomach, blood, skin, and tissues beneath the skin are all treated with Fosfocide 4Gm Inj. Fosfomycin should be used only when other antibiotics have failed or are ineffective. Fosfocide 4Gm Inj prevents bacterial cell wall formation (a protective covering required for survival). Bacteria are thus killed. Additionally, Fosfocide 4Gm Inj reduces the attachment of bacteria to the cells lining the urinary bladder.

Side effects of Fosfocide 4Gm Inj
  • Regularly brush and floss your teeth.
  • Rinse your mouth with water and baking soda a solution to neutralize acid in the mouth. This makes your food taste as it should.
  • Drink plenty of water or non-caffeinated drinks to prevent dry mouth which may lead to altered taste.
  • Try ginger, peppermint, fruit or green teas, lemonade, ginger ale or fruit juice to help mask unpleasant tastes.
  • Try sucking on sugar-free ice pops or ice cubes to prevent dry mouth.
  • Talk to your doctor about oral potassium supplements.
  • Eat potassium rich foods such as bananas, avocados, oranges, dark leafy greens, beans and peas, fish, spinach, milk and tomatoes.
  • Red rash caused by allergies is due to irritants or allergens. Therefore, avoid contact with such irritants.
  • Consult your doctor for proper medication and apply an anti-itch medication. Follow the schedule and use the medication whenever needed.
  • Protect your skin from extreme heat and try to apply wet compresses.
  • Soak in the cool bath, which gives a soothing impact to the affected area.
  • Use a warm compress on the affected area to help reduce discomfort.
  • Elevate the affected limb above heart level.
  • Remove the IV catheter (if applicable) and reinsert at a different site.
  • Consult your healthcare provider if symptoms are severe or persist.

What if I have taken an overdose of Fosfocide 4Gm Inj

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj is administered by a healthcare professional in a hospital setting. Hence, the chances of overdose are less. Overdose of this medicine may cause hearing loss and metallic taste. Your doctor may take immediate necessary action if an overdose is suspected.

Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like cheese, yoghurt, kombucha, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria. 

  • Include fibre-rich foods, as they can be easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fibre-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains such as whole-grain bread and brown rice should be included in your diet. 

  • Maintain a low-sodium diet as Fosfocide 4Gm Inj in injection form may increase sodium levels in the blood.

Fosfocide 4Gm Inj is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which affects and damages the cell wall (covering of bacteria) synthesis. Thereby, it kills the infection causing bacteria. Additionally, Fosfocide 4Gm Inj prevents the attachment of bacteria to superficial cells of urinary bladder, hence preventing infection.

The dosing schedule is decided by your doctor and the dose depends on bacteria causing the infection, site and severity of the infection. Your doctor will consider your body weight, age, and status of kidney function while deciding the dose and duration.

As Fosfocide 4Gm Inj is eliminated by the kidneys, the time for which Fosfocide 4Gm Inj stays in the body depends upon how well kidney functions. In healthy adults, about 80-90% of the total medication injected is excreted by kidneys within 10 hours following a single injection into the veins. The medicine may remain for a longer time in the body if the patient has kidney dysfunction.
