About Doxydan Tablet

Doxydan Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections. Doxydan Tablet treats urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, respiratory infections, eye infections, sexually transmitted infections (like gonorrhoea and syphilis), gum infections, diseases (like periodontitis), and others. Besides this, Doxydan Tablet also treats acne-like lesions caused by rosacea. However, it does not treat facial redness caused by rosacea.

Doxydan Tablet being an antibiotic prevents the growth of bacterial cells (the bad ones!) by preventing the formation of the outer protein layer of bacteria (cell wall) responsible for bacteria's growth and multiplication. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. it acts against various bacteria. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e. it stops bacteria growth but does not kill them.

Doxydan Tablet should only be taken if advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food but should be consumed at a fixed time for the best results. You should complete the course of Doxydan Tablet as your doctor prescribes for better results. Some common side effects of Doxydan Tablet are nausea (feeling or being sick), vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. Please consult your doctor if these side effects become troublesome.

Doxydan Tablet is pregnancy category D (high risk) medicines, so its use in pregnant and nursing mothers is not recommended. Use of Doxydan Tablet during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood up to the age of 8 years) may cause teeth staining (yellow-grey-brown). Do not consume alcohol as it may cause excessive drowsiness when taken along with Doxydan Tablet. Before using Doxydan Tablet, tell your doctor if you ever had an allergy to Doxydan Tablet, have kidney problems, liver problems, swollen food pipe (esophagitis) or muscle disease (myasthenia gravis). Please do not drink alcohol with Doxydan Tablet as it may increase the unpleasant side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.

So, a gap of at least 2 hours should be maintained between intake of Doxydan Tablet and iron supplements and antacids. ANTI- BACTERIALS

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • It would be best to take probiotics after taking the full course of Doxydan Tablet to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestine that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.

  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by gut bacteria which helps stimulate their growth. Thus fibre foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after taking a course of antibiotics. Whole grains like whole-grain bread, and brown rice, should be included in your diet.

  • Avoid taking too much calcium enriched foods and drinks as it might affect the working of Doxydan Tablet.

  • Avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with Doxydan Tablet as it can make you dehydrated and affect your sleep. This can make it harder for your body to aid the Doxydan Tablet in fighting off infections.
