About Cotar Lotion

Cotar Lotion belongs to a class of combination drugs called 'antifungal with keratolytic agents' primarily used to treat dandruff and control seborrheic dermatitis (scaly patches and red skin on the scalp). Dandruff is a flaky, itchy scalp without signs of inflammation.

Cotar Lotion is composed of two medicines: Ketoconazole (antifungal) and Coal Tar (keratolytic agent). Ketoconazole is an antifungal agent that works by preventing the growth of dandruff-causing fungi by preventing them from forming their own protective covering. Coal tar belongs to a class of drugs known as keratoplastic, which works by removing dead cells from the skin’s top layer and slowing down skin cells' growth. This effect decreases scaling and dryness, thus relieving itching and cracking related to dandruff.

The burning sensation may usually last for five minutes after application. Most of these side effects of Cotar Lotion do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Cotar Lotion may cause liver failure, so your doctor will monitor your liver function while taking Cotar Lotion. Let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to Cotar Lotion or other medications. Use of Cotar Lotion is contraindicated in people with asthma, heart problems (with prolonged QT wave of heartbeat).
