About BETALOC INJECTION 5ML

BETALOC INJECTION 5ML is used to treat acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) in hemodynamically stable patients to reduce cardiovascular death when used in conjunction with oral metoprolol maintenance therapy. It is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart-related chest pain (angina), and irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia).

BETALOC INJECTION 5ML contains 'Metoprolol', which helps in slowing down the heart rate, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. This lowers the blood pressure and helps in reducing the risk of having a stroke, heart attack, or other heart problems in the future.

BETALOC INJECTION 5ML will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. In some cases, BETALOC INJECTION 5ML may cause certain common side effects like dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, low blood pressure, pruritus (itchy skin), and bradycardia (slow heart rate). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Inform your doctor if you have low blood pressure, asthma, overactive thyroid, metabolic acidosis, or severe blood circulation problems. Consult your doctor before taking BETALOC INJECTION 5ML if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. BETALOC INJECTION 5ML is not recommended for use in children. BETALOC INJECTION 5ML may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking BETALOC INJECTION 5ML as it might increase the blood pressure-lowering effect of BETALOC INJECTION 5ML . Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any interactions.

Disease/Condition Glossary

High blood pressure (hypertension): It is a condition in which the blood exerts increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels leading to hypertension. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when blood supply to the heart is blocked). Symptoms of high blood pressure include headache, dizziness, nose bleed, changes in vision, chest pain, weakness and dyspnoea (shortness of breath).

Myocardial infarction/Heart attack: It occurs when a blood clot blocks the blood flow to the heart. This blockage of arteries is often an accumulation of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries). Heart attack signs include chest pain, upper body pain, sweating, nausea, fatigue, and trouble breathing.

Arrhythmia: It is a problem associated with the rate of rhythm in which the heart beats too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia) or at an irregular rate. It occurs when there are abnormal electrical signals in the heart. Treatment of arrhythmia includes drugs, medical procedures, implantable devices and sometimes surgery.

Angina Pectoris: It is the chest pain that occurs due to decreased blood flow to the heart. It is usually a symptom of coronary heart disease. Symptoms include squeezing sensation, heaviness, tightness, and pain in the chest.

FAQs

BETALOC INJECTION 5ML belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers used to treat acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) in hemodynamically stable patients to reduce cardiovascular death when used in conjunction with oral metoprolol maintenance therapy. It is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart-related chest pain (angina), and irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
High blood pressure increases the workload on the arteries and heart. If untreated, it could damage the blood vessels of the heart, brain, and kidney and might result in stroke, heart failure or kidney failure. Hypertension increases the risk of heart attacks. Therefore, anti-hypertensives such as BETALOC INJECTION 5ML are used to lower the blood pressure to normal; this reduces the risk of developing these disorders.
Consult your doctor before taking BETALOC INJECTION 5ML if you have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) as it might mask the symptoms or make it difficult to recognise the signs of thyrotoxicosis (excess thyroid hormone in the body).
Consult your doctor before taking BETALOC INJECTION 5ML with anti-diabetic medicines as it might mask the signs of low blood sugar. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels while taking BETALOC INJECTION 5ML is advised.
BETALOC INJECTION 5ML helps in slowing down the heart rate, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body.
