Stazol 50 Injection

Stazol 50 Injection belongs to the class of ‘anabolic steroids' that are primarily used to treat hereditary angioedema, which causes episodes of swelling of the face, extremities, genitals, bowel wall, and throat. It is also used in treating aplastic anaemia (a condition in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells) and as an adjunct therapy in treating vascular disorders and growth failure. 

Stazol 50 Injection contains Stanozolol, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid. It works by decreasing the frequency and severity of the swelling. Anabolic steroids also stimulate growth in the tissues. Stanozolol is also known to reduce bradykinin (inflammatory mediator) production, thus preventing the effect of a bradykinin storm, which is responsible for several complications in COVID-19 patients.

Your doctor will decide the dosage depending on your medical condition. The common side effects of Stazol 50 Injection include menstrual irregularities, acne, difficulty sleeping, changes in sexual desires, and headache. These side effects are not familiar to everyone and vary individually. If you notice any side effects that are not manageable, please consult your doctor.

Before starting Stazol 50 Injection, let your doctor know if you have any history of liver or kidney diseases, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia). Stazol 50 Injection is not recommended for pregnant women since it may cause birth defects. Let your doctor know if you are a breastfeeding mother using Stazol 50 Injection. It is not known if Stazol 50 Injection is safe and effective in children; please seek medical advice.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Stazol 50 Injection may interact with blood thinners (warfarin) and anti-diabetic drugs (glipizide, glimepiride).

Drug-Food Interaction: No interactions were found/established

Drug-Disease Interaction: Stazol 50 Injection is not recommended for use in prostate cancer, breast cancer, and high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia).

• Maintain a fibre-rich diet and include healthy carbohydrates from fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
• Make a note of your triggers and track your attacks to avoid them.
• Eat at regular intervals.
• Keeping your stress under control is important to decrease the frequency of attacks.
• Opt for a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, veggies, and low-fat dairy products.

• Liver functioning tests may be advised by your doctor to monitor your liver health while using Stazol 50 Injection.
• Your doctor may advise tests for blood sugar levels.

Hereditary angioedema: It is a rare genetic condition that causes severe skin and mucous membrane swelling. The frequency of swelling attacks increases after puberty. The swelling mostly affects: 

a) Skin (face (lips, eyes), hands, arms, legs, genitals, and buttocks); 

b) Gastrointestinal tract (the stomach, intestines, bladder, and urethra)

c) Upper respiratory tract (the larynx and tongue).

Symptoms include swelling, fatigue/tiredness, headache, muscle ache, tingling skin, irritability, mood changes, and painless and non-itchy rash.
