Metopt AM Tablet 10's

Metopt AM Tablet is an antihypertensive agent used to treat high blood pressure/hypertension and angina pectoris. High blood pressure is a condition in which the blood exerts increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels. Angina is basically a pain in the heart and chest. 

Metopt AM Tablet contains Metoprolol succinate and Amlodipine. Metoprolol succinate works by slowing down the heart rate, thereby making it more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Amlodipine relaxes the blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow. Together, Metopt AM Tablet helps treat high blood pressure.

Take Metopt AM Tablet as prescribed. In some cases, Metopt AM Tablet may cause certain common side effects such as tiredness, dizziness, headache, ankle swelling and slow heart rate. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen.

It is advisable to inform the doctor if you are allergic to any of its components. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. Keep your doctor informed in case you are due to undergo any surgery or dental procedure. Avoid consuming alcohol with Metopt AM Tablet as there may be an interaction. Metopt AM Tablet  may cause dizziness; therefore, drive only if you are alert.

Metopt AM Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Metoprolol succinate and Amlodipine. It is used primarily to treat hypertension and to relax the blood vessels for seamless flow of blood. Metoprolol succinate is a beta-blocker that eases the symptoms of hypertension by blocking catecholamines that lead to increased pressure and heart rate. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that decreases blood pressure by preventing the influx of calcium ions into cells and by enlarging and relaxing arteries. In addition, Metopt AM Tablet also reduces the oxygen demands of the heart, relaxing the heart and blood vessels and requiring the heart to do less work.

Metopt AM Tablet should not be used in case of any known allergy to either of the components. Metopt AM Tablet should be used with caution in case of high risk or previous history of any arterial or thrombotic disorders, shock, cardiovascular health disorders, diabetes, heart failure, or any disease-causing psoriasis. Please inform your doctor in case of any history of an overactive thyroid, asthma, phaeochromocytoma (high BP due to a tumour in the adrenal glands), myasthenia gravis (neuromuscular disorder), COPD, heart block, liver disease or renal disease. Consult your doctor before using Metopt AM Tablet during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Keep your doctor informed in case you are waiting to undergo any surgery or dental procedure. Metopt AM Tablet may interact with alcohol, please consult your doctor before use. Metopt AM Tablet may cause dizziness, so drive or operate heavy machinery only if you are alert. 

Drug-Drug Interactions: Metopt AM Tablet may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, antiarrhythmic agents (quinidine, propafenone), anti-depressant (fluoxetine, paroxetine), anti-hypertensive (diltiazem, clonidine, verapamil), antibiotic (erythromycin), anti-fungal (ketoconazole, itraconazole), anti-viral (ritonavir), cardiac glycoside (digitalis), 

Drug-Food Interactions: Metopt AM Tablet can interact with grapefruit juice, fish oil and castor oil.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Metopt AM Tablet should be used with caution in patients with a known hypersensitivity disorder, shock, COPD, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, liver cirrhosis, myasthenia gravis, phaeochromocytoma, chronic diarrhoea, thromboembolic disorder, cardiovascular disorder and/or dry eyes.

• Limit the intake of salt in your diet.
• Cut back on foods that are high in fat and cholesterol.
• Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole-grain foods.
• Avoid taking Metopt AM Tablet with grapefruit juice as there may be an interaction.
• Avoid tobacco use. Inform your doctor in case of marijuana use.
• Dress warmly, as Metopt AM Tablet may cause cold extremities.

• In case you miss a dose of Metopt AM Tablet , take it as soon as possible. However, if it is too close to the next dose, revert to the original schedule. Do not ever take a double dose.
• If you accidentally take an extra dose of Metopt AM Tablet , please inform your doctor immediately. Some of the common symptoms of an overdose can be low blood pressure, slow pulse rate, shortness of breath, low blood sugar, dizziness, feeling sick and blue discolouration of the skin.
• Do not discontinue taking Metopt AM Tablet abruptly or without the advice of the physician.
• Please know that your doctor may order blood tests to check your tolerance and need of Metopt AM Tablet .
• Metopt AM Tablet should be used with caution in case of those over 80 or under 40 years of age.

Hypertension: Hypertension is defined as a condition in which the blood pressure remains high persistently. Normal BP is marked at 120/80 mmHg. Hypertension is defined as consistent blood pressure over 140/90 mm Hg. Hypertension expresses itself in various symptoms such as fatigue, irregular pulse rate, headache, dizziness, chest pain etc.

Angina Pectoris: Discomfort in the chest or the heart is referred to as angina. It occurs when the workload on the heart increases and when the heart does not get as much blood as it needs. Symptoms of angina include chest tightness, pressure and heaviness in the chest.
