ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE is used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid, which works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBC is produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets sufficient supply of oxygen. In some cases, it may cause side effects such as vomiting, nausea, stomach upset or dark coloured stool. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE

ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells for carrying adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.

ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE is a combination of two drugs: Ferrous ascorbate (iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBC is produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets sufficient supply of oxygen.

Take ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE as advised by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, stomach upset or dark coloured stool. Most of these side effects of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE. ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you have an allergy to any sugars, inform your doctor before taking ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE as it may contain lactose. If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE.

Uses of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE

Treatment of anaemia.

Directions for Use

Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by your doctor, and swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it.Syrup/Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

What if I have taken an overdose of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE as it may cause overdose. If you suspect you have taken overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Can I take ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE with coffee or tea?

You are not recommended to take ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE with coffee, tea or dairy products at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE. However, you may drink coffee or tea 2 hours before or after taking ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE.

Can I take ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE with phenytoin?

You are not recommended to take ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the concentration of ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, please consult a doctor before taking ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE with phenytoin.

Is ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE safe for hemochromatosis patients?

ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE is not recommended for hemochromatosis (excessive iron in the body) patients as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, it is advised to inform your doctor if you have any iron overload conditions before taking ZEMCIFER XT CAPSULE.
