Metrogyl-M Ointment is primarily used to treat bacterial skin infections, impetigo, rosacea, and bacterial vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis). Bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria invade and affect the tissues of the skin. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. Impetigo is a contagious (spread by contact) infection that causes red sores on the face. Rosacea is a skin disease that causes redness, flushing, and pimples on the face.
Metrogyl-M Ointment is composed of two antibiotics: Mupirocin and Metronidazole. Mupirocin is an antibacterial drug. It prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out its vital functions, thus preventing bacterial growth. Metronidazole belongs to the class of drugs called nitroimidazole antimicrobials. It exerts bactericidal (kills bacteria) action and inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis and cell growth.

It effectively treats impetigo caused due to Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes). Metronidazole is an antibacterial drug that treats insect bites, skin ulcers, bed sores, wounds and other bacterial and parasitic infections. It inhibits the DNA synthesis of bacteria and certain parasites and prevents their cell growth.

Metrogyl-M Ointment is for external use only. Avoid contact of Metrogyl-M Ointment with eyes, nose, and mouth. Rinse it off with water thoroughly if you get the medicine accidentally in these areas. Avoid applying Metrogyl-M Ointment on sunburns, lesions, blisters, and open wounds. Cover the affected areas with a dressing or bandage only if the doctor advised you to do so. Metrogyl-M Ointment is not recommended for use in diaper rash, which is often caused due to fungus. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should use Metrogyl-M Ointment only with proper doctor consultation and caution. Do not store Metrogyl-M Ointment above 25°C.
