Uvarab-IT Capsule is used to lower the increased level of stomach acid. It treats GERD (gastro-oesophagal reflux disease), and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the intestine and stomach.
Uvarab-IT Capsule is a combination of two drugs: Rabeprazole and Itopride. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for acid production. It minimizes the release of acid from the stomach, which provides relief from heartburn and acid-related digestion. While Itopride works on the part of the brain that is responsible for controlling vomiting. It increases gastric emp undying improves gastric sensitivity and tension by increasing the stomach's movement and intestines in the upper digestive tract. It also has anti-emetic action. Together, Uvarab-IT Capsule helps prevent acid reflux, thereby relieving acidity.
Take Uvarab-IT Capsule 30-60 minutes before food. Do not chew or break the tablet; swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. You are advised to take Uvarab-IT Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects such as headache, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Inform your doctor before taking Uvarab-IT Capsule if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical perforation/obstruction, or movement disorder. On long-term treatment, Uvarab-IT Capsule may cause osteoporosis and hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium). Do not take Uvarab-IT Capsule if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by the doctor. Uvarab-IT Capsule causes drowsiness, so drive only if you are alert. Uvarab-IT Capsule should not be given to children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol with Uvarab-IT Capsule as it can lead to increased drowsiness and increased acid production.

Consult your doctor if you experience unexplained weight loss, stomach pain, indigestion, vomit food or blood, or if you pass black stools. On long-term treatment, Uvarab-IT Capsule may cause osteoporosis and hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium), and may reduce the absorption of vitamin B12.
DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS: Uvarab-IT Capsule may have interaction with pain killers (aspirin, naproxen), an antidepressant (duloxetine), hypothyroidism (levothyroxine), statins (atorvastatin), blood thinner (clopidogrel), and vitamin (vitamin b12).
FOOD-DRUG INTERACTIONS: Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increasing acidity and heartburn.
DRUG-DISEASE INTERACTION: Uvarab-IT Capsule may have interactions with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction or perforation, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), liver disease, bone fractures, hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium).
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, the mucous layer gets eroded due to excess acid production, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, a sour or bitter taste, and difficulty swallowing. Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the stomach's protective lining. Symptoms include nausea, changes in appetite, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion.
