Metolar Injection 5 ml belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers used to treat acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) in hemodynamically stable patients to reduce cardiovascular death when used in conjunction with oral metoprolol maintenance therapy. It is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart-related chest pain (angina), and irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
Metolar Injection 5 ml contains 'Metoprolol Tartarate', which helps in slowing down the heart rate, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. This lowers blood pressure and helps in reducing the risk of having a stroke, heart attack, or other heart problems in the future.
The dose and duration will be prescribed by your doctor. In some cases, Metolar Injection 5 ml may cause certain common side effects like dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, low blood pressure, pruritus (itchy skin), and bradycardia (slow heart rate). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you have low blood pressure, asthma, overactive thyroid, metabolic acidosis, or severe blood circulation problems. Consult your doctor before taking Metolar Injection 5 ml if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Metolar Injection 5 ml is not recommended for use in children. Metolar Injection 5 ml may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Metolar Injection 5 ml as it might increase the blood pressure-lowering effect of Metolar Injection 5 ml. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any interactions.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Inform your doctor if you have heart conduction problems, heart rhythm problems, uncontrolled/severe heart failure, blocked blood vessels, blood circulation problems, untreated pheochromocytoma (tumour in the adrenal gland), metabolic acidosis (excess acid in the body), low blood pressure, and prinzmetal angina. It is contradicted in sick sinus syndrome without a pacemaker, severe bradycardia (slow heart rate), and decompensated heart failure (sudden onset of symptoms of heart failure).

High blood pressure (hypertension): It is a condition in which the blood exerts increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels leading to hypertension. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when the blood supply to the heart is blocked). Symptoms of high blood pressure include headache, dizziness, nose bleed, changes in vision, chest pain, weakness and dyspnoea (shortness of breath).
Myocardial infarction/Heart attack: It occurs when a blood clot blocks the blood flow to the heart. This blockage of arteries is often an accumulation of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries). Heart attack signs include chest pain, upper body pain, sweating, nausea, fatigue, and trouble breathing.
Arrhythmia: It is a problem associated with the rate of rhythm in which the heart beats too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia) or at an irregular rate. It occurs when there are abnormal electrical signals in the heart. Treatment of arrhythmia includes drugs, medical procedures, implantable devices and sometimes surgery.
Angina Pectoris: It is the chest pain that occurs due to decreased blood flow to the heart. It is usually a symptom of coronary heart disease. Symptoms include a squeezing sensation, heaviness, tightness, and pain in the chest.
