About Fol-G1 Tablet

Fol-G1 Tablet belongs to the class of 'Vitamins', primarily used to treat nutritional deficiencies. It is used to treat and prevent nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin B6 deficiency, folate deficiency and vitamin B12 deficiency. A nutritional deficiency occurs when the body does not absorb or get enough nutrients from food. Fol-G1 Tablet helps in the growth and development of cells, boosts the immune system, balances vitamin content, metabolism of minerals, and helps maintain a healthy central nervous system.

Fol-G1 Tablet contains Folic acid, Pyridoxine, and Methylcobalamin. Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate. It helps in the formation of red blood cells and prevents DNA changes that may lead to cancer. It prevents and treats low blood levels of folate (folate deficiency), and high blood levels of an amino acid, homocysteine (hyperhomocysteinemia). Pyridoxine is also known as vitamin B6. It is a water-soluble vitamin involved in protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism and the formation of red blood cells and neurotransmitters. Methylcobalamin regulates body functions, such as cell multiplication, blood formation, and protein synthesis.

Take Fol-G1 Tablet as advised by the doctor. Sometimes, Fol-G1 Tablet may have common side effects like nausea, stomach upset, diarrhoea, drowsiness, flushing, and numbness/tingling. These side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time.  However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects gradually.

Let your doctor know if you are using any other medicines or herbal products before starting Fol-G1 Tablet . If you are known to be allergic to Fol-G1 Tablet or its inactive components, please inform your doctor. Please tell your doctor if you have malabsorption syndrome (difficulty absorbing nutrition from food). In such a case, the dosage form may be changed to intravenous administration of individual vitamins for better absorption. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mother, please consult your doctor before taking Fol-G1 Tablet .

Medicinal Benefits

Fol-G1 Tablet is used to treat nutritional deficiencies. It contains Folic acid, Pyridoxine, and Methylcobalamin. Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate, a water-soluble Vitamin B. It helps in the formation of red blood cells and prevents DNA changes that may lead to cancer. It prevents and treats folate deficiency and hyperhomocysteinemia. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) is a water-soluble vitamin that treats and prevents vitamin B6 deficiency. It is involved in protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism and the creation of red blood cells and neurotransmitters. It helps in cognitive development through neurotransmitter biosynthesis and maintains normal homocysteine levels (an amino acid in the blood). Methylcobalamin regulates body functions, such as cell multiplication, blood formation, and protein synthesis. Together, Fol-G1 Tablet helps treat nutritional deficiencies.

Directions for Use

Take Fol-G1 Tablet with or without food as advised by the doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it.

Drug Warnings

Inform your doctor if you have malabsorption syndrome (difficulty absorbing nutrition from food). This disease may make it hard to absorb B complex vitamins when given orally. Your doctor may advise other dosage forms in such cases. Let your doctor know if you have any blood disorders like pernicious anaemia before starting Fol-G1 Tablet . Pyridoxine and folic acid in Fol-G1 Tablet are excreted into the breast milk. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking Fol-G1 Tablet . Excessive alcohol consumption reduces absorption and increases the elimination of folic acid. Alcohol can also worsen the side effects like drowsiness and stomach upset. Hence, please avoid alcohol while using Fol-G1 Tablet .

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: Fol-G1 Tablet may interact with anti-cancer drugs (altretamine, cisplatin, and arsenic trioxide), anti-epileptic medicines (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), antibiotic (chloramphenicol), medicines treating Parkinson's disease (levodopa), drugs used to treat tumours (Fluorouracil), antibiotics (trimethoprim), stomach related drugs (sulfasalazine), and cholesterol-lowering drugs (cholestyramine).

Drug-Food Interactions: Excessive alcohol consumption reduces the absorption and increases the elimination of folic acid. Alcohol can also worsen the side effects like drowsiness and stomach upset.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Use Fol-G1 Tablet with medical advice if you have malabsorption syndrome (difficulty absorbing nutrition from food) and allergic reactions to medicines.

  • Sprinkle sunflower seeds over your food, vegetables and salads. 

  • Include fruits like citrus, banana and watermelon in your diet.

  • Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.

  • Exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Avoid excess fatty foods.

  • Clinical monitoring of folic acid, vitamins B12 and B6 levels through blood examinations is recommended.

  • Let your doctor and the laboratory staff know if you are using Fol-G1 Tablet since Pyridoxine may interfere with laboratory tests like urine test for urobilinogen.

Vitamin B6 deficiency: When your body doesn't have adequate levels of a water-soluble vitamin called Pyridoxine or Vitamin B6, this disease is developed. Vitamin B6 deficiency symptoms include fatigue, skin rashes, cracked and sore lips, weak immune system, tiredness and low energy levels, tingling in hands and feet, and fits.

If your Vitamin B6 levels are still low, your doctor may recommend its supplements.
Vitamin B12 deficiency is caused when you don't have enough Methylcobalamin or Mecobalmin levels in your body. You can include natural Vitamin B12 sources like eggs, beef, liver, chicken, trout, salmon, tuna fish, clams, fortified breakfast cereal, low-fat milk, yoghurt, and cheese in your diet for treating the deficiency.
