Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet belongs to a group of medicines called pain killer/Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain, chronic low back pain, and muscle spasms. It relieves the pain and relaxes the muscles. Pain is a symptom triggered by the nervous system, causing uncomfortable sensations in the body. Muscle spasm is the sudden involuntary contractions of the muscle, which can be painful and uncomfortable.

Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet is a combination of two drugs: Ketoprofen (NSAID) and Thiocolchicoside (Muscle relaxant). Ketoprofen blocks the effect of a chemical messenger known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme that makes other chemical prostaglandins (PG). By blocking the effect of chemical messenger ketoprofen helps in reducing mild to moderate pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site. Thiocolchicoside is a muscle relaxant and works on the centres of the spinal cord and brain. This helps relieve muscle stiffness and improves muscle movements, thereby helping relieve pain due to muscle spasms.

Take Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical conditions. You may experience nausea, heartburn, indigestion and stomach pain, dizziness, sleepiness, nervousness, diarrhea, ringing in the ear. Most of these side effects of Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet should not be taken if you are known to be allergic to Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet or any other medicines. Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet should not be taken in the conditions like kidney or heart disease. Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet should not be taken if you are known to be allergic to Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet or any other medicines. Do not take Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its contents, if you have stomach ulcers, have suffered bleeding problems, clotting problems, inflammatory bowel disease, severe heart, liver or kidney problems. Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke. So, if you have had any recent heart surgery, do not take Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet. Inform your doctor before taking Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet if you have or had stomach bleeding or ulcers, heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney or liver impairment. Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet may cause a visual disturbance in few patients, inform your doctor and discontinue the Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet immediately if you observe this symptom. This Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet may increase the potassium level, regular monitoring of potassium level may need. Do not take Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before starting Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet. Spifen MR 50mg/4mg Tablet should not be used in children as safety and efficacy have not established. • Get adequate sleep as resting the muscles can help in reducing inflammation and swelling.
• Follow heat or cold therapy, apply a cold or hot compress on the joints for 15-20minutes regularly.
• De-stress yourself by meditating, reading books, taking a warm bubble bath or listen to soothing music.
• Acupuncture, massage and physical therapy may also be helpful.
• Eat food rich in antioxidants such as berries, spinach, kidney beans, dark chocolate, etc.
• Foods containing flavonoids help in reducing inflammation. These include soy, berries, broccoli, grapes and green tea.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
