Spear Ointment belongs to the group of anorectal preparations used to treat anal fissures and haemorrhoids (piles). An anal fissure is a small tear in the mucosa that lines the anus. Haemorrhoids, also known as piles, are the inflamed and swollen veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding.
Spear Ointment contains 'Cinchocaine hydrochloride and Policresulen'. Spear Ointment helps in alleviating pain and itching that occur as a result of inflammation. Spear Ointment works by numbing the area of application and reducing any unpleasant sensations in or around the anal region.
In some cases, Spear Ointment may cause certain very occasional side effects such as temporary stinging, skin rash and skin sagging. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects consistently.
Inform the doctor if you are allergic to any of the components of Spear Ointment. Avoid Spear Ointment in case of any systemic infection. Discuss your entire medical history with the doctor. Inform the doctor of any medications you are currently on. Consult your doctor before using Spear Ointment during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.
Spear Ointment is a skin ointment that has anaesthetic and pain-numbing properties. It contains Cinchocaine hydrochloride and policresulen. Spear Ointment is used to relieve the pain, discomfort and itchiness associated with anal fissure and haemorrhoids (piles). Cinchocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic that blocks the transmission of impulses across nerves, thereby easing the sensation of pain. It inactivates the sodium channels in the nerve cell membrane, thereby preventing the sodium-induced activation of the cell and precluding any transmission of nerve impulses that produce the sensation of pain. Policresulen functions as an antiseptic and haemostatic agent by virtue of its bacteria and fungus-killing nature and helps arrest bleeding. Spear Ointment is hence used to treat anal fissures and haemorrhoids.
Inform the doctor if you are allergic to any of the components of Spear Ointment. Avoid Spear Ointment in case of any systemic infection and/or hypersensitivity. Discuss your entire medical history with the doctor. Inform the doctor of any medications you are currently on. Exercise caution while using Spear Ointment with anti-retrovirals (HIV drugs). Consult your doctor before using Spear Ointment during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding. Do not use Spear Ointment for more than 7 days unless advised otherwise by the doctor.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Spear Ointment should be used with caution in patients with a known hypersensitivity disorder, wool allergy, eye problems and any systemic infections.
Haemorrhoids: Haemorrhoids are lumps or bumps that form within and around the anus. If symptomatic, they cause difficulty and straining while defecating. In addition, they also produce pain, discomfort, irritation, itchiness and sometimes even bleeding.
Anal fissure: Anal fissure is a small tear in the mucosa that lines the anus that causes pain and bleeding during or after a bowel movement. Anal fissures generally heal independently, and if the condition lasts for more than 8 weeks, it can be considered chronic. Sometimes surgery may also be needed depending upon the condition. Symptoms include tear of skin around the anus region, burning sensation, pain, and blood during a bowel movement.
