Nausetil Inj belongs to a class of antipsychotic medications called phenothiazines used to reduce symptoms of major mental disorders such as schizophrenia, and, acute mania. It is also used as a short-term treatment for anxiety. Additionally, it is used to treat symptoms of nausea and vomiting, and vertigo (dizziness) due to inner ear disorders such as Meniere’s syndrome or labyrinthitis. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave properly. Mania is a mental condition that causes intense excitement, high energy, and delusions (misbeliefs). Anxiety is a mental health disorder associated with fear, worry, and excessive nervousness that may interfere with one’s daily activities.
Nausetil Inj contains Prochlorperazine which decreases the action of dopamine (a chemical messenger involved in transmitting messages between brain cells) in the brain and helps to control psychotic symptoms in Schizophrenia. Nausetil Inj has a calming effect on people suffering from anxiety or mania. Also, Nausetil Inj works by inhibiting dopamine receptors that stimulate the vomiting centre (chemoreceptor trigger zone – CTZ) located in the brain. Thus, Nausetil Inj prevents nausea and vomiting.
Nausetil Inj will be administered by a healthcare professional. Do not self-administer. Some people may experience dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing up from sitting or lying down) as side effects of Nausetil Inj. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Do not take Nausetil Inj if you are known to be allergic to it. Nausetil Inj should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years as there is an increased risk of adverse effects. Nausetil Inj is not recommended for children. Please inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking Nausetil Inj. Avoid consumption of alcohol with Nausetil Inj as it may increase adverse effects. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight while taking Nausetil Inj as it may cause skin more sensitive to sunlight. If this injection solution comes in contact with your skin, it may cause dermatitis (a type of skin rash).

A receptor in our brain known as the chemoreceptor zone (CTZ) controls vomiting.
