Montek Plus Tablet is a respiratory medication, primarily used in the treatment of asthma and other similar conditions. Asthma is a breathing problem in which airways narrow, swell and produce extra mucus, leading to difficulty breathing.
Montek Plus Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Bambuterol (bronchodilator) and Montelukast (leukotriene receptor antagonist). Bambuterol belongs to the bronchodilators class; it works by relaxing muscles and widening the lungs' airways. Bambuterol also has mucoregulating/mucolytic (dissolves thick mucus and helps relieve breathing difficulties) and anti-inflammatory properties. Montelukast belongs to the class of leukotriene receptor antagonists. Leukotrienes are inflammatory chemicals that are released by the body when an allergen comes into contact. These chemicals cause swelling in the lungs and tightening of the airway muscles, which are the primary causes of asthma attacks. Montelukast works by blocking these leukotrienes, thereby reducing inflammation and swelling in the nose. It also inhibits bronchoconstriction (narrowing of airways in the lungs that lead to breathing difficulties) and is used in treating asthma and allergic rhinitis.
