Jolltrim Paed Suspension belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics used to treat and prevent lung infections caused by a bacteria called Pneumocystis jirovecii, infections caused by a bacteria called Toxoplasma, urinary tract infections (water infections), respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, ear infections such as otitis media. Bacterial infections are a condition or illness caused by bacterial growth inside or on the body. These harmful bacteria produce chemicals known as toxins, which can damage tissue and make you sick.

Jolltrim Paed Suspension contains Trimethoprim (folic acid inhibitors) and Sulfamethoxazole (sulfonamides). Trimethoprim prevents the formation of tetrahydrofolic acid, and sulfamethoxazole stops the bacteria from making dihydrofolic acid. Tetrahydrofolic acid and dihydrofolic acid are essential for forming proteins and nucleic acids, which are necessary for the survival of bacteria. By inhibiting these, Jolltrim Paed Suspension kills the bacteria and stops their growth. Thereby, it helps to treat bacterial infections.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Jolltrim Paed Suspension may interact with medicines used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (e.g. amantadine), drugs used to prevent organ rejection(e.g. cyclosporine), a medicine used to relieve pain, swelling (e.g. indomethacin), medications used to decrease the toxic effects of methotrexate (e.g. leucovorin), anticancer drug (e.g. methotrexate), medicines used to treat the parasite diseases (e.g. pyrimethamine), blood pressure medication (e.g. benazepril, quinapril, enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril); a diuretic or 'water pill' (e.g. chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide) and blood thinner (e.g. warfarin).

Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Jolltrim Paed Suspension to prevent unpleasant side-effects such as fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under the skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Jolltrim Paed Suspension may interact with various disease conditions, including severe liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, malnourishment, HIV or AIDS and thyroid disorders.

• It would be best to give probiotics after taking the full course of Jolltrim Paed Suspension to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestine that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.
• The BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) can help with diarrhoea from antibiotics.
• Give plenty of water to the child. Staying hydrated is important, especially when you’re child sick.
• Eating a broad range of plant-based foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, pulses, and whole grains helps to build a healthy gut microbiome.
• Avoid feeding too many calcium-enriched foods and drinks because they may interfere with the functioning of Jolltrim Paed Suspension.

Jolltrim Paed Suspension may affect certain laboratory test results, such as blood tests. Inform the person doing the tests that your child is under the treatment with Jolltrim Paed Suspension. The doctor may suggest regular tests if your child has kidney problems or if your child has been prescribed Jolltrim Paed Suspension for a longer duration to know if the medicine is working properly.
