Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml belongs to the class of medications called ‘antispasmodic agents’ used in the treatment of pain and spasms (muscle contraction) associated with various conditions such as dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps), postoperative intestinal spasms, gastrointestinal spasm (pain due to muscle straining for expelling gas out of the body), biliary colic (presence of gallbladder stones), and cervical dilation during labour (widening of the cervix to facilitate childbirth).

Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml contains ‘Valethamate bromide’, an anticholinergic drug that works by blocking the effect of acetylcholine (constricts muscle). It dilates the smooth muscles present in the intestine and cervix. Thus, it treats spasms.

Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml is a parenteral medicine. It will be administered by a healthcare professional; hence do not self-administer. You may experience certain side effects such as headache, stomach upset, blurred vision, constipation, difficulty swallowing, injection site reactions and irregular heart rate. These side effects usually disappear without any medical attention. However, if any of these side effects persist, talk to your doctor.

Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml may not be suitable for all. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to it. It should be used with caution if you have liver/kidney problems. Inform your doctor if you have eye problems (glaucoma), prostate gland problems, digestive tract problems, and arrhythmias (irregular heart rate). Drug-drug interactions: Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml may interact with antihistamines, phenothiazides, antipsychotics, and a medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease (a brain disorder). It may antagonize the effects of medications used to treat nausea and vomiting (domperidone and metoclopramide).

Drug-disease interactions: Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml should be used with caution in patients with severe liver and kidney failure, narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye), enlarged prostate gland, inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal system (gut), blockage in the small intestine (pyloric stenosis), and tachyarrhythmia (rapid heart rate).

• Regular exercise aids in muscular stretching, making them less prone to spasms, tears, and sprains. Mild workouts like jogging and walking might aid with muscular stretching.

• Massages can also be helpful.

• Avoid freezing and hot temperatures. Also, try to avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes; instead, wear loose garments.

• Rest and sleep well. Always, stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.

• To avoid developing pressure sores, change your position at least every two hours.

• Hot or cold therapy can help treat muscle spasms. Apply an ice or hot pack on the muscle for 15-20 minutes.

Dysmenorrhea: It is the medical term for menstrual cramps. It occurs due to heavy bleeding or other underlying conditions associated with the uterus.

Urinary colic: It is a condition in which the presence of stones in the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra can block the urinary tract. It causes severe abdominal pain.

Biliary colic: It is a condition in which gallstone blocks the bile duct, which is essential for draining bile from the gallbladder to the small intestine. It results in severe pain in the upper and middle parts of the abdomen.

Cervix Spam: Cervical spam is a sudden involuntary contraction of neck muscles occurring due to strain or weakness. Epidosin 8 Injection 1 ml helps provide relief from cervix spam. It is also used to dilate the cervix during childbirth and help in shortening the labor.
