About Dextop-DSR Capsule

Dextop-DSR Capsule belongs to a group of medicines called gastrointestinal agents used to treat acidity, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia (indigestion), and peptic ulcers. The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to acidity-related problems.

Dextop-DSR Capsule is a combination of two drugs, namely: Dexrabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Domperidone (a dopamine antagonist). Dexrabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid. Domperidone works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscle. Together, Dextop-DSR Capsule helps in treating acidity related problems.

You are advised to take Dextop-DSR Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as dry mouth, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, and flatulence. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Inform your doctor if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or intestinal obstruction. Consult your doctor before taking Dextop-DSR Capsule if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dextop-DSR Capsule may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Dextop-DSR Capsule is not recommended for children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol with Dextop-DSR Capsule as it could lead to increased drowsiness and can elevate the production of stomach acid. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medicines to rule out any side effects.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Eat smaller meals more often.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increasing acidity and heartburn.
  • Maintain a healthy weight by regular exercising.
  • Avoid lying down after eating as it causes acid reflux.
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothes as it might increase the pressure on the abdomen leading to acid reflux.
  • Practise relaxation techniques and avoid stress by doing yoga or meditation.
  • Avoid foods such as high-fat food, spicy food, chocolates, citrus fruits, pineapple, tomato, onion, garlic, tea and soda.
  • Avoid sitting continuously as it may trigger acidity. Take a break of 5 minutes every hour by doing brisk walking or stretching.

Special Advise

  • Inform your doctor if you are due to have Chromogranin A blood test.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Acidity: The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, peptic ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): It occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing.

Peptic ulcers: Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the lining of the stomach and intestine due to erosion of the protective stomach lining. Symptoms include nausea, changes in appetite, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: It is characterised by the formation of tumours in the upper part of the small intestine, which leads to excess acid production. Symptoms include bloating, burping, weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.

FAQs

Dextop-DSR Capsule contains Dexrabeprazole and Domperidone. Dexrabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid. Domperidone works by increasing the movements and contractions of stomach muscles. Together, Dextop-DSR Capsule helps in treating acidity.
Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Dextop-DSR Capsule. Drink enough fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if you have severe diarrhoea or if you find blood in stools.
Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Raise the head of the bed 10-20cm by putting a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This helps in preventing acid reflux.
Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Dextop-DSR Capsule. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might help stimulate saliva and thereby prevents drying of the mouth.
Do not take Dextop-DSR Capsule for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve even after taking Dextop-DSR Capsule for 14days.
On long-term treatment, Dextop-DSR Capsule might increase the risk of bone fracture in the spine, wrist or hip. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids, as they can increase the risk of bone fractures.
