CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION belongs to a class of medications called antipsychotics used to treat schizophrenia (a mental illness) and other psychotic disorders. Additionally, CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION may be used in the initial treatment of mania over the short term. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave clearly.
CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION contains Zuclopenthixol which works by inhibiting the dopamine (chemical messenger) receptors in the brain. Dopamine is involved in regulating mood, behaviour and emotions. Thereby, CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION helps in controlling psychotic illness by preventing the overactivity of dopamine in the brain. Thus, it helps in improving feelings, disturbed thoughts and behaviour.
CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. Some people may experience sleepiness, akathisia (inability to sit still or remain motionless), dry mouth, hyperkinesia (involuntary movements), hypokinesia (slow or diminished movements), constipation, muscle pain, tremor, or headache. Most of these side effects of CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Zuclopenthixol or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION is not recommended for children. CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION is not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary because using it during the third trimester may cause adverse effects in the baby, such as breathing problems, muscle stiffness or weakness, shaking, etc. CLOPIXOL ACUPHASE INJECTION may be excreted in breast milk.
