Caltock-D Capsule belongs to the class of nutritional supplements used to treat low calcium and magnesium levels. Caltock-D Capsule increases bone density and is also used to treat Vitamin D deficiency, hypocalcaemia (low levels of calcium), osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones), rickets or osteomalacia (softening or deformation of bones due to lack of calcium) and prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who cannot get sufficient calcium from their diet.
Caltock-D Capsule is a combination of four nutritional supplements, namely: Alfacalcidol (a type of vitamin D), Calcium citrate (calcium supplement), Isoflavonoid and Magnesium oxide (mineral supplement). Alfacalcidol works by strengthening the bones by increasing the calcium and phosphate levels in the blood that are essential for the formation of healthy bones and teeth. It raises the Vitamin D levels and thereby increases calcium levels in the blood. Calcium citrate is a calcium supplement that is used to prevent or treat a calcium deficiency. It provides essential nutrients to maintain bone formation. Isoflavonoid increase bone mineral density. Magnesium oxide is a mineral supplement used to prevent or treat low magnesium levels in the body.
Take Caltock-D Capsule as prescribed. You are advised to take Caltock-D Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience stomach pain, itching, rash, constipation, diarrhoea or flatulence (gas). Most of these side effects of Caltock-D Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Caltock-D Capsule or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Caltock-D Capsule . Caltock-D Capsule should be used with caution in children and only if prescribed by a doctor. Drive only if you are alert as Caltock-D Capsule may cause dizziness. Do not take Caltock-D Capsule if you have hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels in the blood) or calcification (high calcium levels in body tissues).
Caltock-D Capsule contains Alfacalcidol, Calcium citrate, Isoflavonoid and Magnesium oxide. Alfacalcidol is converted into the active form of vitamin D3 (calcitriol). It strengthens the bones by increasing the calcium and phosphate levels in the blood that are essential for forming healthy bones and teeth. Caltock-D Capsule increases bone density and has stimulating effects on osteoblastic activity (formation of bone) in the skeleton.
If you have vomiting, nausea, bone pain, muscle weakness, increased thirst or urination, constipation, tiredness or lack of energy, contact a doctor immediately as these might be signs of high calcium levels in the blood.
Drug-Drug Interaction: Caltock-D Capsule may interact with antacids containing magnesium, medicines containing aluminium and calcium, heart-related drugs (digoxin), water pills (furosemide), anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone), painkiller (aspirin), antidepressant (duloxetine), iron supplement (ferrous sulphate) and thyroid drugs (levothyroxine).
Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid spinach, rhubarb, bran, whole grains, soft drinks, caffeine and alcohol with Caltock-D Capsule as they may reduce the absorption of calcium.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Avoid taking Caltock-D Capsule if you have hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels in the blood) or calcification (high calcium levels in body tissues). If you have granulomas (small areas of inflammation), sarcoidosis, cancer, blockage in intestines, heart disease, parathyroid gland disorder, kidney stones or any other kidney problems, inform your doctor before taking Caltock-D Capsule .
Regular blood tests are recommended while taking Caltock-D Capsule to monitor calcium levels in blood.
Vitamin D deficiency: It is a very common deficiency that occurs due to an inadequate supply of vitamin D to the body. The symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency include tiredness, bone and back pain, depression, bone loss, slow wound healing, hair loss and muscle pain. The deficiency of vitamin D may lead to conditions such as osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones), and osteomalacia (weak bones).
Osteomalacia/Rickets: Rickets is a bone disease caused by softening and weakening bones in children due to inadequate vitamin D. Adults can experience a similar condition known as osteomalacia. It causes bone pain, poor growth, and soft, weak bones that can lead to bone deformities.
Osteoporosis: It is a bone disease that weakens and thins bones by decreasing bone density. As the density of bones decreases, they weaken and are more likely to break.
Hypocalcaemia: It is a condition that is caused due to low levels of calcium in the blood. Hypocalcaemia can be caused by a lack of vitamin D.
