Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm

Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm is an antiseptic and disinfectant used to treat sore throat. It also treats and prevents infections of the lining of the mouth and throat, such as gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and mouth ulcers. Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm is also used to cleanse the mouth for preparation of the oral mucosa before any injection, dental surgery or tooth extraction. 

Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm contains Povidone iodine. It works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. As a small molecule, iodine can easily penetrate microorganisms and oxidize essential proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids, leading to cell death. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.

Use Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm as suggested by a doctor. Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm may cause common side effects like mouth or throat irritation, dryness of mouth and throat, and burning sensation. These side effects gradually resolve during the treatment and do not require medical attention. However, if the side effects persist longer, please seek medical help.

Brief your medical history to the doctor if you are allergic to iodine or povidone. Let your doctor know if you have thyroid diseases, liver, and kidney problems before starting Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm. Please tell your doctor if you are undergoing any lithium therapy or treatment involving radioactive iodine. Do not use Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm before or after radioiodine scintigraphy or radioiodine treatment of thyroid carcinoma. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or are a lactating mother.

Do not use Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm if you are allergic to povidone-iodine. Let your doctor know if you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or any other thyroid diseases (nodular colloid goitre, endemic goitre or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), liver, or kidney problems. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or are a lactating mother before using Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm. Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm should be used in children under twelve years of age only when the doctor has advised it.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm may interact with anti-depressants (Lithium).

Drug-Disease Interaction: Before using Betadine Effervescent Granules 2gm, let your doctor know if you have any allergic reactions to iodine or povidone, overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or any other thyroid diseases, liver, or kidney problems.

• Eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly to strengthen your breathing muscles and boost your immune system.
• Drink fluids like hot herbal teas, soups, and broths to help loosen congestion and lubricate the throat.
• Gargle with warm salt water regularly.
• Avoid smoking to prevent further irritation of the throat.
• Use a cool-air humidifier to prevent dry air that can further irritate a sore throat.
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol to prevent further dryness of the throat. 

Sore throat: It is the pain and irritation in the throat that worsens with swallowing. It causes dryness and scratchiness in the throat. It is often caused by a viral infection, cold or flu. Symptoms of a sore throat include pain, dryness and scratchiness in the throat, difficulty in swallowing, swollen and red tonsils, hoarse voice, and sore and swollen glands in the neck and jaw. Treatment includes drinking warm liquids, gargling with warm salt water and medicated gargles/rinses, lozenges, and pain-relieving medicines.
